Rogue One - I'll give it a 9

Wonderful and they did stuff they couldn't get away with in the main series.

"Gold Leader standing by" made my hairs stand on end.

Although I thing Red 5 got killed, I guess they have a slot in that squadron now for any plucky young pilot who fancies his chances.

Sully - I didn't like it. They added drama where there wasn't any, were 'flexible' when it came to the processes that would have been followed and added a lot of padding about his back story and stuff that went on afterwards.

It's not like they didn't have enough material to work with to begin with but have gone for the drama rather than documentary angle which is a shame.

4/10.

another massive thumbs up for Rogue One - a whole helluva lot darker than I expected! Some lovely touches though - thought that Grand Moff Tarkin was great!

In preperatin for next years live version "Ghost in the Shell" Manga from '95

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j6wsGuzP2Q

I saw Akira years ago and never really got into it. This was much the same. I like to think I'm not thick/slow. But the story is so under explained it sort of lost me at times. And rather frustratingly appears to be set up massively for a sequel. (which I'm not sure was ever made) Since it just kinda ends with no explanation or conclusion. Good or Bad.

A rather flummoxed 5/10
You can see the inspiaration for scenes in The Matrix films too. Apparently they were influenced by the Managa

The Big Short

This I liked. It's well written, well acted. Explains what happened and why ultimately it will probably happen again. Steve Carrell is just a ball of rage the whole film. 8.5/10

Why wasn't Rogue One called Episode 3.75? From the way it was named, I went thinking it would be a sub-par spin-off, but it's definitely a good one. Had much of the humour of the original (the robot gets all the best lines, and the actor delivers them perfectly).

I made the mistake of going to the 3D showing, and the blurring was excessive and distracting. Just when your eye is drawn to something interesting, the director's 3D focus shifts and you're forced to watch the in-focus bit (even when there's no real 3D action).

8/10. 1 deducted for 3D and 1 deducted for continued use of the #1 SW cliche.

(Can't wait until there's a SW movie with no bloody Deathstar.)

It had racism, lots of bad dwarf humour, shagging in Christmas trees, over rubbish bins, burglars getting hand jobs, people wan king into women's shoes and all kinds of other bad taste humour.
It was of course Bad Santa 2, pretty similar to BS1!

So 9/10 then, you can't take off 1 for format laugh

SW1, 2 and 3 had no Death Star wink

I work in the industry and I have to say that this was an incredibly accurate portrayal of the types of genuine characters and made a surprisingly great film!
(Michael Lewis's writing was always going to be impressive too.)
Carrell was an absolute marvel.
Having just seen the trailer for Despicable Me 3 and thinking back to Foxcatcher - he must be one of the most versatile guys working in Hollywood today.

For clarity then

Episode one - no Death Star
Episode two - Death Star prototype plans at Genosis
Episode three - Death Star being built in one of the final scenes
Rogue one - much Death Star
Episode four - much Death Star
Episode five - no Death Star
Episode six - bigger Death Star
Episode seven - Death Star rebranding excercise

I'm fine with the concept of prequels, but you might be struggling with what's actually in them.

They must have got over to Tatooine pretty quick from that market.
