plotholes and contrivances abound to spoil what could be an otherwise epic.
I am keen to ask - if people who consider Interstellar and Inception to be "overhyped flawed wannabe-masterpieces", can you give us a few example movies which you do consider to be "unflawed masterpieces" so that we may guage your yardsticks ?

You see, I can't help but think you're going to respond with movies like "Fast and Furious 5", and I'm keen to be proved wrong....

Bit silly to criticise on that level when almost by its very definition (sci-fi) it will be contrived.

Artistically it's a very nice piece of work, and I feel much the same about Prometheus fwiw
You are consistent, then! smile

Withnail and I

A restored print and just reissued in all its splendour.
Shown this afternoon at the local art house as a birthday request.

I've just found out that there are still a few people out there who have never seen it. Got to be one of the 101 things to do before.....

11/10 Brilliant

Yeah it's ok, a decent Sunday matinee.
I hope for his own sake Pesty didn't watch it all the way to the end...

I absolutely hate and detest this film and can find not a single redeeming feature in its miserable existence.

The passion it provokes in some people i know is equally hateful.

Still, each to their own and all that.

I absolutely love and adore this film and can find not a single fault in its joyous existence.

The hatred it provokes in some people I know is utterly confounding.

Still, each to their own and all that.

Bit silly to criticise on that level when almost by its very definition (sci-fi) it will be contrived.

Artistically it's a very nice piece of work, and I feel much the same about Prometheus fwiw
An example in Interstellar - he rocks up to the secret underground lair having not been near a plane/ship in years and within 5 minutes he's the chosen one (which they never could be sure would turn up) and he's the only one that could do it and off he goes.

He couldn't give a st about his son and just majors on his daughter (which just grates more than is a flaw) and then when he finally speaks to her it's a 'hey, been spending my entire life to get to you but now I'm here I'll spend 5 minutes then I'm off to bang the space chick'

It's just too contrived and feels like it got edited to remove some parts of depth that add weight.

It was also hard to be enamoured after the 20th external shot of the space ship from the left hand wing entering its next planet.

I don't think it's a bad film, far from it, it just wasn't this 'much watch' masterpiece. Dare i say it was quite boring bar the big wave planet which was a great act.

I don't think many will revisit it after just one viewing (but I am sure many on here enjoy will be contrary to this)

i've got a foot in both camps of the interstellar argument. i like the fact its challenging but it feels like a little extra effort in the edit and story would have paid far richer dividends. to me it seems like studio tried to reign it in to be more audience friendly. i'm holding out for a directors cut. challenging cinema should be applauded, the current trend for superheros and all that ste just turns me off.

Brothers Grimsby last night. Typical SBC, completely gross, no substance with terrible acting.

But I did laugh. A lot. I think I might need help!!

Watching elephants will never be the same again!!!!

Filth. Jesus, what an amazing film, and a stellar central performance. I was in hysterics at the museum scene.

Bit grim though...reminded me of Brazil, and another 80's classic.

Nope. Never seen it, nor do I have any plans to at this point (no real reason for me to not want to really)

I also haven't seen 12 Angry Men, It's a wonderful life or the Godfather (any of them)

It amazed and frustrated me at the same time.

Wonderful cinematography and score, challenging subject matter, pulsating scenes (wave planet / docking)...marred by character actions that made little sense, his son's story-line and that bloody ending.

Dont Breathe - https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dont_breathe_2016...

There isnt much 'body' to the plot but its a good watch all the same with plenty of twists and turns right until the end.
