Films I watched this week

Hail Ceasar - WTF/10
I love films with a quirky sensibility, and no issues if nothing really happens, but I just didn't get this at all. Loved Grand Budapest Hotel, Burn After Reading etc which share a similar feel, but I didn't get into this at all.
A shame, as I kinda assumed I would probably love it.

The arrival.
Was looking forward to this, only saw a teaser trailer ages ago but stuck my head in the sand after that so it wasn't spoilt. I watched it last night and thought it was a bit lame really, probably just about give it 6/10 and 2 of those were for Amy Adams...
I'd have given Amy Adams 1......giving the movie a total of 1/10. Story is a great idea but doesn't go anywhere and seems to skip large sections as well. I suspect it would work better as a series of books or TV show. Was looking forward to this, only saw a teaser trailer ages ago but stuck my head in the sand after that so it wasn't spoilt. Hacksaw Ridge .
A touch schmaltzy at times, but an incredible true story that drew me in.
The battle scenes are as brutal and grizzly as you expect these days.
Overall a film well worth a trip to the cinema for.
The end brought a bit of a lump to my throat too.

Andrew Garfield played the country lad with a conscience perfectly.
I shudder to think how much more gory the battle scenes would need to be to get an 18 certificate though!

It's too slow I think. I gave up after the Channing Tatum dancing scene. I wanted to like it cause the trailer was good. Hell or Highwater
8/10 I liked it. Good plot, good ending.
The Dark Knight Rises
For some reason I have never got round to watching this before, despite having seen the first two of the trilogy of the Chrisopher Nolan Batman films. However, it is currently available on Amazon Prime Video so this seemed a good opportunity to rectify that.
At 2hr45 I found it rather long, but it was quite enjoyable.

Live By Night..
Ben Affleck, wrote, directed, starred in, produced and probably 'wrote the theme toon'....
Steaming pile of horse manure.. one paced prohibition era gangster yarn. Tries to be Road to Perdition. It fails miserably.
In context:
ROAD TO PERDITION... 9/10
UNTOUCHABLES... 9/10
PUBLIC ENEMIES... 6/10
This pile of tosh... 1/10
You've been warned..

Popstar: Never stop never stopping.
Mockumentary starring Andy Samberg from Brooklyn nine-nine. Amusing in places story of a boy-band singer who goes solo, finds superstardom and then releases his second album which is a disaster and where the film begins. Had some good moments and massively better than the recent David Brent film (which isn't saying much). Hardly a classic but just about worth a watch. ETA score 5/10.

Manchester By The Sea - Story about a caretaker struggling with his life (Lee, played by Casey Affleck) whose brother dies leaving him as guardian to his teenage nephew, Patrick. Lee seemingly finds it hard to cope with most things and through flashback scenes we find out why. Great film with some fantastic acting. 8/10.
Hunt for the Wilderpeople
a new Zealand comedy featuring Sam Neill and a you NZ lad.
will be hard to top as the best film I watch this year, was genuinely funny, great characters and scenery. the connection between the 2 main characters is amazing.
10/10
The Accountant
man is good with numbers and knocking people about, he has autism.
gets 3 extra points for Anna Kendrick,
8/10
Cartel Land
documentary about the fight against the cartels in Mexico
to summarise:
goodies can be baddies
baddies can be goodies
there is no black and white.
lots of crying
lots of shooting
4/10
maybe I missed something.
