good not great, felt like a film of 2 halves. Very Hollywood
7/10
It's a good movie. I know some people who are absolutely raving about it but I know what you mean. A film of 2 halves. The war scenes are up there with some of the best and it's a gripping story. I agree that for all that, it's only a 7. I'd still recommend it though.good not great, felt like a film of 2 halves. Very Hollywood

When Vince Vaughn walked in to shot I had a horrible sinking feeling. But he managed not to ruin the film.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople
a new Zealand comedy featuring Sam Neill and a you NZ lad.
will be hard to top as the best film I watch this year, was genuinely funny, great characters and scenery. the connection between the 2 main characters is amazing.
10/10
We watched it at home and almost applauded when it finished.a new Zealand comedy featuring Sam Neill and a you NZ lad.

Best film I've seen for some time.
Some good life tips too, I'm going to fill in those five forms today to make sure I never have to fill a form in again.
The funeral scene also had me in stitches. "Vegetables"

WTF is someone's story, it's what's in her book, if it was more 'sexed up' then it wouldn't be her story. I thought it was a pretty charming film. I'm glad there wasnt more blood, guts and glory, as it would have just been a Hollywood reimagineering with no scope for the truth of the woman's story.
Tina Fey took Kim Bakers story from her book and made a film about it, Tina even produced the film herself. I'm glad it didn't get the full 'Tom Cruise' treatment.
Yep I was aware of that, it doesn't excuse it from just not being a terribly entertaining film though. I wasn't looking for a full-on action film (I rarely am), I just felt the first hour or so worked really well when she was between parties and in the thick or war zones, but it went downhill quite quickly for the last 30 minutes.Tina Fey took Kim Bakers story from her book and made a film about it, Tina even produced the film herself. I'm glad it didn't get the full 'Tom Cruise' treatment.
I'm also not entirely sure Tina Fey is suitable for movie work such as this. I love her work, but she is always Tina Fey (nothing wrong with that in itself), so very difficult to accept as a different character, much less a based-on-a-real-life one.

Did it have a good ending? My OH and I got bored and switched if off halfway through.
This and "A Most Violent Year" I found to be similarly really dull.Great ensemble casts, lovely period detail, well shot, acted and directed, but ultimately just dull...
"The Drop" was nearly as slow, but that for me had just enough under current of menace and a decent ending....

I enjoyed the drop. Totally forgotten about it. I've not seen it since it was released so I might just hunt that one out again. Great ensemble casts, lovely period detail, well shot, acted and directed, but ultimately just dull...

I watched John Wick the other night.
It must have gone completely under my radar the first time around, I never really knew about it, however, I saw the trailer for the sequel at the cinema and I thought I better give it a go.
I was not disappointed. Wasn't hard to understand the story, a classic tale of revenge, almost Rambo-like in its execution.

Opposite end of the spectrum I'm now halfway through Grimsby, don't think I've laughed so much at a movie for ages!

Black Mass - Decent Depp movie for a change some great performances in the supporting roles 7/10
Did it have a good ending? My OH and I got bored and switched if off halfway through. I've been having a Bill Murray extravaganza. So many of his films I had seen just odd bits of, mainly years ago.
Where the Buffalo Roam - Comedy caricature of a real journalist, Hunter S. Thompson. Not bad, bit weird. Humour very slapstick. Probably give it a 5.5/10 as the ending was so abrupt and dissatisfying.
Stripes - Superb underrated army training comedy. I think I grinned and laughed the whole way through it and I hardly ever enjoy comedy films. You can't help but love Murray's character. If you get hold of a copy of this, make sure it's the post watershed version as some of the risque moments are the best. 9/10. Would have been 10/10, but the last half hour went a bit too silly and wasn't as funny.
Ghostbusters - Everyone knows it, so not much point reviewing it really unless like me you last saw it when you were about 10 years old and can hardly remember it. Worth watching again if you havent seen it for a long time. The special effects were better than I thought they would be and it really was a great idea for a film. Probably best if considered a kids film watchable by adults. Awesome theme tune. 8/10.
Groundhog Day - Not as funny as Stripes and the character isn't quite so likeable, but a much more intelligent story. Loved it. 9/10
Caddyshack - Most of the good bits in this film are those of Carl Spackler, played my Bill Murray. It gets a 6.5/10. Needs more Carl Spackler.
Although I have really been enjoying his early films, next on my hit list are two films actually made this century and are supposed to be very good. Broken Flowers and Lost In Translation.
