The Hundred-Foot Journey - a nice gentle food-based comedy based in France featuring Indian cuisine.

We caught this a while ago and it's a lovely inoffensive film we enjoyed very much. Makes you want a curry and a trip to France.
I watched this tonight, what a lovely feel good film, had me welling up and smiling in equal measure. Thank you for the heads up 8/10

Hidden Figures The story of three black ladies who helped Nasa in the Space race. Predictable but entertaining. 7/10

Inferno

Pretty terrible actually. Also why did they change the end from the book?

Doctor Strange

Not bad, but Benylin Cucumberpatch's American accent grated through the whole film.

Bizarrely, this is exactly what happened during my own attempt and I don't usually bin a flick based on something as trivial as a guys facial expressions but it was the point I knew it wasn't going to improve so HARDCORE HENRY went on instead biggrin

6.5/10 for the old HARDCORE (pretty much to be expected for this type of movie)

Can't really rate hacksaw since I wasn't willing to waste a Saturday nights viewing watching forest run the distance.
Got free tickets to see Hacksaw Ridge at the cinema, so I wasn't going to leave and it really does develop into an incredible story (and good film) as it goes, but I can kind of see why people might give up at this stage, it's a bit Walton's Mountain early on, but that's all about his character - People really did live like that.

I felt the same. The inane grin and floppy hair...everything bright cheery and beautiful...the birds are singing and only a grumpy dad ruins his fun.....You shouldn't switch off though as the 2nd half, post boot camp, his pretty bloody horrific...As I put early Gibson likes his gore, and not since his Passion of The Christ had I been this shocked...it's not just the blood and bits, it's the fact it's not fantasy violence along with the sheer wastefulness of war that comes across with the ruinous damage the weapons did back then...in close and longer distance combat.
Then at the end there are some great tributes, and then with a bit of extra reading you find out that the film under played the whole deal....

Watched this last night and was also disappointed (although I haven't read the book so didn't realise there was a different ending).

I quite enjoyed the Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons for the romp that they were but didn't get much enjoyment out of this one at all.

Perhaps a generous 4/10

I'll give it another whirl at some point in the coming weeks.

Watched Manchester by the Sea this evening. Enjoyed it a lot. I'm always impressed by Casey Affleck and still surprised he's related to try as hard as you like wooden boy Ben tbh.

A solid 8/10 for me

Life of Crime

wasn't sure why I stuck with this;, Tim Robbins sure, and the two kidnappers were subtly played, turned out to be a really good story, if a lil clumsily executed, based on an Elmore Leonard novel, so no surprise there.

American Honey. Long (almost 3 hours) and not a great deal happens but I couldn't take my eyes off it and absolutely loved it. Ostensibly about a group of misfit teenagers who travel across America selling magazine subscriptions door-to-door, but all I can say is that you'll be gripped from first to last. One of the best films I've seen in a long time. 9/10.

Moonlight - 3 stages of life of a gay black guy growing up. After all the hype, this was a bit of a letdown and I struggle to see what the fuss is about. Not my genre I guess. 6/10

Enjoyed it but it could have been so much better. Such an interesting proposal.

Fences
A slice of life, no discernible story as such. Just ALOT of really good script for Denzel and the cast.
Enjoyed it a lot. Took me away. 8.3/10

Recently watched:

The Magnificent Seven (new one) - very enjoyable Western with a suitably over the top final action scene

Lights Out - very simple concept, a ghost that can only move in the dark, well made with good scares

The Girl With All The GIfts - slow start but a decent twist on what is now a tired zombie genre

o/t but I really miss the IMDB message boards frown lots of idiots and trolls but some great discussions hidden amongst them

Hunger games - catching fire (part 1). It just took so long to get anywhere that at the end of the film, I just didn't give a st.

Slow, painful, boring. I won't watch part 2. Well. I probably won't....
