Is Hunt for the Wilderpeople the only film to have a 100% approval rating from contributors to this thread? Can't remember a bad word about it.

It's not an ingenious life-changing milestone in cinema, but it is very charming and engaging in many ways. Perhaps that's why it's so highly recommended: it's telling a story rather than trying to be critically "a good film".

John Wick 2

It was good, lots of fantastically filmed action. I haven't seen the first one so was a bit confused but all in a good watch.

Similar reasons I really enjoyed The Intern that I was forced to watch recently.

Agree with most about Passengers too, had SO much potential but somehow missed the mark.

The Intouchables is probably the highest rated film on this thread on consensus.

I didn't enjoy the Hunt for the Wilderpeople at all. I switched off after 30 minutes.

Loved the French film, intouchables.

I found Hunt for the Wilderpeople a bit of light hearted fun something to watch on a Sunday afternoon maybe, wouldn't say it was anything special.

Intouchables is far superior IMO.

Logan Long, slow, brutal addition to the X-Men franchise.
This felt like adults made the film for adults who happen to like comic book characters, it felt a bit more real, as real as a story like this could be.
I enjoyed it as it felt like a mature cross over film from bright cheery no offensive violence with snappy one liners, now becoming 'more'.
but I did feel it was long, they really indulged, took a lot of time to tell the story...and boy do the 2 main characters looked knackered...

Watched the oscar winning feature length documentary OJ: Made in America on Monday. Best documentary ive seen in a long time, and not long at 8hrs! But it manages to weave all sorts of topics about race in the US, and very clever doc that presents both sides of the argument and leaves it's to the viewer to come to a conclusion.

And best of all it's on BBC iplayer

Arrival thinking persons sci fi, almost too brainy

Finally saw The Accountant good film for Ben Affleck, despite him being in it, in terms of acting he's the weakest thing in it, although he does the action well. Felt like it might have sequel set up, although the premise was good, I'm tired of the formulaic ending where every action movie (including a thinking one like this) must end in a huge gun battle or some martial arts kick and fist fight for 20mins.

Any way the OJ is really worth a watch.

Nocturnal Animals.

I bought this on Sky on a whim, and I wish I hadn't. Am half way through and I give up, reviews (not mag reviews, real user reviews are slit between loving it and hating it, with little in-between. I am with the latter, I think it is a big pile of pretentious bunkum. I cannot stand to watch any more...

If memory serves me correct, the ending was atrocious. There wasn't one!

I watched the OJ doc and thought it was excellent.

I was only aware of OJ from the Naked Gun films onwards I didn't realise he'd been such a legendary footballer and athlete previously, I was hooked from start to finish. I guess it's a testament to OJ murderer or not that they were able to fill 8hrs with ease about his life, although I thought they were going off on a tangent too much about race earlier on but realised it was relevant background for the trial once it started.

Agreed I wondered the same about Part 1 (iplayer has spilt into 3 parts, up to the murder, then the murder and trial, and up to Las Vegas) why is going on like this, but then it all makes sense in part2, then I wondered what was left for part3, beyond the civil case, but I'd completely forgotten he was going to go to jail in the end. But again it all fed back into the themes that had been running in parallel to his story.

I like Casey Affleck... but even I struggle to see how this was worth the Oscar...nomination, perhaps, but the win?
Anyway, I really 'enjoyed' the film, a story basically about grief... within one family and multiple events...so 'enjoying' it is not easy, but there were a few black humour moments..at least I think they were, and it is beautifully acted and made. The story jumps about in time a bit, but it came together really well. A quality item...and one I think I'll think ore of, after another watch or two...

another thumbs up for this film (has any one protagonist killed so many people without a bomb or machine gun?). Great fun though some of the earlier scenes (especially) do strain credulity.
