Bounty Killer

A film adaptation of the comic; it is basically Borderlands on the big screen! nerd Cheesy, silly and amusingly gratuitously gory. Low expectations make for a good-bad B movie (way better than Battleship at an nth of the price).

A splatterworthy 7 axe-in-the-heads out of 10 burst stomachs. thumbup

New U.N.C.L.E. film - despite everything thrown in by Mr. Ritchie, I thought it was boring. Fell in love with Alicia Vikander, though lick
I really liked it. Made me laugh quite a lot (intentional)

J Cusack.... would that be Joan or John Cusack?

They're both in the film in pretty much the two main roles!
I had forgotten about, Joan. I think she is rather good.

I would recommend Bitter Lake, Adam Curtis' latest documentary (I assume) and you can watch it on iPlayer. It's about Afghanistan and Saudi. - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02gyz6b

My wife always likes Colin Firth so I suggested this tonight , we went in totally blind and were both very quiet at the end . Can only say thank-you for the heads up , it was staggering
Most welcome, it is a great story.

Just re-watched Dredd for the first time in ages and again feel hugely gutted it will never get a sequel. What they achieved on such a relatively small budget (<£30 million) is amazing. I blame Stallone...
Why blame Stallone is was not in Dredd. He starred in Judge Dredd

That was my point, his original attempt at a JD film was such a stinker that he basically cursed the IP.

Ok, watched Southpaw yesterday night. Good points - Jake Gyllenhaal performance (except for some boxing). Bad points - full of cliches, rather primitive plot, 50 pence, totally predictable. Dissapointed 5.5/10

I then found Jiro Dreams of Sushi, which was what I was actually seeking. This explores the life and craft of Jiro, 85 years of age at shooting, his life story, food, 3 star Michelin restaurant and legacy. If you have even the slightest interest in Japanese food, I highly recommend this beautifully put together documentary.
Just watched this and I thought it was a great film. I couldn't believe though that the apprentices had to be trained for 10 years before they would be allowed to make dishes containing egg. I thought jiro had an incredible attention to detail. Noticing if his customers were left or right handed and placing the sushi on the plate accordingly and altering the portions based on their gender so everyone finishes at the same time case on point. He's like the food version of Horatio Pagani. Nice rs4 as well.

The Babadook.

Not sure. Starts as a monster movie ends as a monster movie but is something much more interesting in the middle act which made the ending a bit of a shame. Why do they always cast slightly weird looking kids in these roles?
It looked good, very stylised, you could say cliched, grey house but she was wearing pink to contrast.
A disappointed 5/10

Annie (2014) watched with my wife, 5 year old and 1 year old daughters on a wet bank holiday Monday. The original is one of my wife's treasured childhood favourites. She was absolutely appalled as was I.
Not since Mama Mia have so many actors with zero signing talent been cast in a musical. Our feelings during the musical numbers was akin to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tm2Jy64b0dI (37 seconds in)
From the very start it seemed like the most cynical of Hollywood remakes with absolutely no care or attention applied and obviously done on a very limited budget.
at the conclusion I remarked to my now grief stricken spouse about how she now understands how I feel after another crappy remake.

Score: Pierce Brosnan / Albert Finney

A Field in England
I like Julian Barrett & Reece Shearsmith. Mark Kermode said this film was terrifying. A year ago i started watching and got 15 mins in and switched it off (not scary, just st). I rarely abort films so this weekend i decided i owe it a full watch. Made it through the full 90 mins. Completely incoherant, made no sense, not scary. I was right the first time around.
1/10

Self/Less
An old dying billionaire pays for his consciousness to be transferred into fit hunky Ryan Renolds, and happily bangs his way through New Oleans, until he starts getting flashbacks from his "host body", resulting in moral choices on his part, and attacks from the shady company that carried out the procedure. A watchable enough sci-fi-Lite thriller in a Total Recall/Bourne Identity mould.
5/10

Blue Ruin
A resourceful tramp learns that the man who killed his parents is being released from prison - he tracks him down and kills him. The man's redneck family dont go to the police though, and so begins an escalation of violence as they come looking for him. Some grisly scenes, and some really black comedy. Quite a low budget film apparently, but very good.

Yeah it was OK and the boxing scenes were more realistic than Rocky but it was predictable, basic and the soundtrack got on my t1ts. I'm sure I heard Eminem (who must be in his 40's by now) bleating on like an angry teenager about how hard life is.

I watched this last night. It was entertaining enough as a sci-fi set in our time in our world but it was a bit lacking for me. The action/fight scenes were not up there with the Bourne/Taken movies, the story was flimsy and it was all a bit average. Worth a watch but nothing more.

The Lucky Ones
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0981072/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The story revolves around three soldiers who return from the war after suffering injuries and learn that life has moved on without them. They end up on an unexpected road trip across the U.S

It was ok not sure I would agree with IMDB score of 7/10 but watchable.

I watched this on Sunday, i thought it was fairly good, easdy watching for a Sunday night, 7/10 for this although the story was pretty much the same as most boxing films, winner, loser, winner.

I also watched this last night and agree with the above, it reminded me of Limtless quite a bit, 5.5/10 from me.

Cinderella - Sumptuous, and beautifully produced, but I felt it lacked a little Disney magic. I think it actually needed a song or two. 7/10

Love, Rosie - By the numbers romcom based on a Cecelia Aherne book. My 13-year-old daughter (also Rosie, as it happens), urged us to watch it. It is ruined by the script, which requires all the characters to be completely stupid. Only saved by an Audrey Hepburn-esque performance by Lily (daughter of Phil) Collins. 2/10

November Man - Pierce Brosnan tries to emulate Liam Neeson. So boring, I fell asleep halfway through, but I reckon Brosnan would still be a better Bond than Daniel Craig.

I agree. There were a couple of times when you thought they were going to burst into a musical number, and then don't....
Good film though.

I thought it was a decent weekend film. I'd give it a solid 6.5/10. Of course Reynolds pretending he's Kingsley is amuzing

Watched Kick Ass 2 and I am not sure I would agree it is significantly worse than the first one, as many have said.

Spoilers for both.

I find Kick Ass himself, and his nerdy friends, to be mostly dull in both movies. Big daddy and Hit girl are far more interesting for me and where the second movie did succeed is in making both her abilities more believable (she is both bigger and not as unstoppable) and focusing more on her. I suppose the first movie did feel "bigger" and had a better villain but since I am not really engaged with the main character of the first one that didn't matter as much.

There are rumours of a Hit girl spinoff and done right that would be the sort of super-hero movie I would like to see.
