Interstellar.

Watched it once and turned it off half way through as I simply couldn't hear it.

Watched it again, subs on and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Ant-Man. Quite an enjoyable Marvel comic character film. Nothing too complex but worth a look. 6/10

(Evangeline Lilly - 9/10)

The Thirteeth Floor - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0139809
It's dated a little but I think it's a cool bit of sci-fi, quite low budget, it came out about the same time as The Matrix and there are certain similarities to the plot (I guess also Existenz) and whilst that film is spectacularly awful it did look great which is why that one did well and this one sank without a trace, this is quite low budget and has a small cast but I thought it has aged better than the others, well worth a look.
That sounds pretty good.
I had thought it was something to do with this.

which should be made into a film! Some of those stories from SCream were excellent.

For some reason I've been thinking about this film recently, despite not watching it since it was new. So I decided yesterday to put it on.

7.5/10
Did you know that those three films came out within literally a few weeks of each other? I only know that as almost watched them consecutively in the spring of 1999.

If you liked The Thirteenth Floor, you might like the original series it was based on. It's German and from the 70's but still a great idea, and a different angle to the story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_on_a_Wire

Yeah, stories seem to be like buses. We have had a spat of android films/series recently Ex-Machina, Her, Humans (there's probably more). I don't know if they were commissioned at similar times or just ended up being released that way.

I saw Existez and 13th Floor before seeing The Matrix, it's possibly why I didn't get on with the last one as it was the weakest retelling of the idea of virtual worlds.

Guys - Heads Up.
Tonight's film was DRACULA (1958 )on BBC IPlayer and just six days to go before its gone.

Let me fill in some background. It must be over 50 years since I first saw this at the local flea-pit and people screamed 'Brand X' as the contemporary buzz word for a washing powder advert on TV. It was shortly after that as a teenager, I suddenly wondered why I was reading the Pan Book of Horror, the world was filled with horror and I no longer needed that for entertainment. As a consequence Chainsaw Massacres and Omens have passed me by, but tonight, a bottle of wine and a tasty supper prepared me for this. I suppose I slipped a bit in the past with 'lesbian vampire killers' but I suppose it was excusable.

.....that reminds me - John Atkin, can I have me DVD back please ?

I give Dracula 10 1/2 out of 10, It was brilliant, full of cliches, fantastic colour, dripping candles, slinky nighties, heavy breathing, heaving bosoms, red lipstick and top totty. Ladies called Ingar, and Girda and totally over the top performances from the Customs Agent when his border barrier got broken and the undertaker who finds his coffin is missing ! What is there not to like.

If its passed you by, remember it was long ago, but Cushing and Lee hammed it up to the hilt. Superstars of the day. You probably gathered, I loved every minute.

Enjoy.

I bought this earlier this year, it is packed to the rafters with goodies, even the script in PDF format:

Has anybody seen Bridge Of Spies yet? Mrs B and I are off to see it on Wednesday and I'm wondering if I'll need one pre-film cocktail or four.
Yep - just got back and really enjoyed it, dare I say far better than watching spies of the Spectre type last week.

A straight forward adventure film, good pace, Tom Hanks was great ( he's turning out to be a grizzly old movie-star, up with the best of them ), great settings and contemporary cars to place the time and mood. Have two pre-movie cocktails and make a brilliant night of it.

I remember ( or thought I did ) the Gary Powers story and it was great to see how it filled out to complete the story with some historical notes at the end. Our man was a bit of an unsung hero actually.
Just got back from watching Bridge of Spies, great film, great story, fantastic performances from Hanks and Rylance. For someone who hasn't lived through that era I find it incredible that such things happened relatively recently and certainly has echoes of events happening in the World today.

A definite 17 turnips out of porridge.

Ant-Man. I have seen folk describe things as being so bad that they are almost good. That sums this up for me. Good fun but not really very good.

From the opposite ends of the spectrum!

Fury- been wanting to see this for a while, really enjoyed it very bloody and pretty grim 8/10

Charlie Brown & Snoopy Movie - not bad but not as good as I thought it would be. Lots of nods to the originals but thought the story was lacking, my 8yo daughter thought it was ok. Probably appreciated more by the grown ups. 5.5/10.

Found an old Paul Newman film on telly yesterday, 'The Secret War of Harry Frigg'. Never heard of it, but enjoyable enough to pass a couple of hours on a wet Saturday afternoon. Light-hearted wartime caper with this added bonus:

Drat, missed that.

Glory, The Descendants and Reservoir Dogs were all on last night, and Jungle Book (cartoon) on later today.

I'd agree with this. Definitely good fun... will be strange to see how they incorporate the characters into the upcoming Captain America / Avengers movies too. Can't quite see it all fitting together at the moment.
