I (like half the country, I guess), watched a whole bunch of Star Wars over the weekend to 'prepare'.

I'm sticking my neck out, Return of the Jedi is fantastic. It was always the one I enjoyed most as a kid and whilst I would really struggle to rank them these days, I still love it (even the Ewoks)
Totally agree, RotJ is one of my all time favourite films!

Ewoks are great - this is a kids film biggrin

Nightbreed - one from 1990, I enjoyed it then and I enjoyed watching it again last night. Not a great film by any stretch and I can see why it wasn't more popular but so what wink
It was a great book - called Cabal. I think the film captured the characters but not enough of the story.

Still one of my guilty favs even though I know it's flawed.

Attack of the Clones last night. Big improvement on Phantom Menace. I was amazed at how intrusive/obvious a lot of the special effects were though.

That's something I think a lot of people forget. We all saw 4-6 as kids and thought they were great, but expected 1-3 to be for us as adults.

Nope, I enjoyed them very much smile

Similar to the Ewok outrage, people need to remember that these are children's fantasy films, and not for Adults in there late thirties.

I cannae wait to see the new film on Friday smile

Has none seen Inside Out yet? Supposedly the best film of the year and already in the top 100 movies EVER according to IMDb. I have to wait until my 16 year old daughter goes back to Australia before I can watch it with the Mrs. Apparently it pulls at the heart strings in a similar way o UP. The first 40 seconds is meant to have you reaching for the tissues especially if you have had kids.

Saw it in the cinema, enjoyed it but it's not really what I was expecting from the trailers.

I was expecting a lot more about the "insiders" reacting to the outside world, like the bit in the trailer with them round the dinner table, rather than it being mainly about things inside.[

Saw it a week or so ago.

It's good, I wouldn't say brilliant, doubt it would make it in to my top 100 ever, but maybe not too far off. It's a clever concept and the plot is a good one, though it's probably one of the more serious animated films I've seen in a while with not so many comedy moments. It actually struggled to hold my attention in places, I'd rate it 7/10.

Makes no difference, Empire was a 'kids' film but like a true old fairy tale, was pretty grim. Because Lucas was reigned in. In the first two films which were a more collaborative effort, they were aimed at everyone, but Lucas got it more if not all of his own way in the third, and had 100% control in the prequels.
The problems with the third film and the prequels crossover, but they are not all the same.

Someone bought me the box set a few years ago and I watched all six in story order (prequels first) and I honestly didn't see a big gap in quality between them.

The stand out moments for me were the climatic ending of The Empire Strikes Back and when Annikin turned into Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith.

You mean the bit where he pulls himself free of the shackle and walks forward like frankenstiens monster saying "Noooooooo!"
Also a stand it for me... Just for presumably different reasons. I thought it was st

While Milking the Giant Cow.

How to ruin what could have been a powerful and emotive scene.

Jupiter Ascending - 1, no, 2 no, 3, maybe 4, aww to hell with it, 5/10

laugh

So bad, its actually quite good.

The bees bit had me laughing out loud.

You can see the wahh-couch-keys trying to tie in some of the Matrix style "ohh so that's why that weird thing happens" stuff, but it was as if they were taking the piss this time.

Anyway, if you don't think about it..at all, and go with the gravity boots flow it's not that bad...

..well, it is, really bad, all I could think of was how the actors must have felt like total fanny's through the whole film.

I thought it was going to reveal that Star Wars rebels were in fact terrorists and the Jedi were Isis. Baning death sticks, chopping arms off on a whim, killing a million on the Death Star.

The Stanford Prison Experiment.

You probably know how it ends, but still watch it open mouthed in places
