Creature Designers: The Frankenstein Complex

For anyone interested in special effects from early 1900s to CGI. Talking to the artists and directors, films with make up, puppets, stop motion, people in suits, CGI, motion capture...

Really interesting stuff, and a few things I didn't know in the raptors in the kitchen scene of Jurassic Park, some of the raptor parts were people in suits
Nice one. Only got half of it done last night, but v. Interesting. Reminds me of my ambitions as a kid, used to idolise Harryhausen and Tippett.

Has anyone mentioned Outlander?
We are on E9 S1, it is just a nice and interesting storey but watchable.
I was surprised at that one, I'd never have thought that I'd follow what's essentially a love story. We're on S2, which has a good start so far and persuaded me to start reading the books behind the series.
We have got to E2 of S2 and decided to stop watching it as it seems all was revealed in E1 of S2, i.e. getting off the plane in New York after finding herself suddenly back in the late 1940's.

The conclusion we made was, knowing this, what was the point as it seems quite obvious where the plot was going to go in S2 and the fannying about in Paris was tedious.

We might return to it but at present it is off our watch list.... unless you can convince us otherwise?

First series was great (of Outlander) really enjoyed it. 2nd series seemed a bit lame, left it after 1st ep.

I have mentioned this before about Outlander, we started to really enjoy it, and the pacing got so uneven (dull for long periods) it wasn't fun to watch. We tried the second series, but only managed two episodes before giving up. Shame, as the premise is very interesting.

I just found out that all 10 seasons of X-files are on Amazon Prime. I caught the odd episode here and there but never followed a full season. Should keep me occupied on the train for a while.

Wife and I discovered Parks and Recreation is on Prime now.

Hadn't ever watched it before but had heard good things, plus I like the team from the US Office.

We have binged on that since last Tuesday and so far halfway through Season 3. Had a few cancelled plans due to illness, this has helped feel a lot better.

Watched 'a most violent year' the other night.

It absolutely bombed at the box office 2 years ago and vanished into obscurity but it's actually a really good film I thought. A slow burner but a good story.

Working our way though it now, my wife watched it back in the day but it passed me by then. I like it

I can understand that, it was a bit odd to start the series by effectively telling you how it was going to end. I found the French episodes slow, the change to political shenanigans is a bit of a change for a highlander but the episodes are just following the books I guess. As you might guess from Ep1, they return to Scotland and try for the rising in the last episodes of the series. We're on the last 2 now, but you could easily skip right to the last 3 or 4 episodes and still pick up the tale well enough from the flashbacks.

IMO series 2 suffers from the "we want 13 episodes but only have enough content for 7, so we'll pad it out and slow it down a bit". We'll still watch it through and probably give S3 a shot as well, but so far Series 1 has been the best viewing.

Yes, I like that film too. Love the scene where Purfoy is about to us his broadsword, and shouts 'Clear'! hehe

Precinct 75. Sorry if its been mentioned before. Documentary about corrupt cops in New York in the 80s/90s.

Great stuff if you like the genre and subject matter. Big characters, immersive story with a satisfying conclusion. Should be made into a film. Made better as I'd never heard of it and was a random time filler. 8/10

Just started The Path - so far so good. Aaron Paul plays a father who's thinking about leaving a Scientology style cult. Some quite dark undertones and good acting.

Also the music and incidental music is absolutely stunning.

We have 2 episodes of this to go, really enjoying it, some good characters.

I'm relatively new to Prime as I only signed up for the Grand Tour, but so fair I have binge watched all of:

The Man in the High Castle.

Goliath.

Both absolutely excellent in my opinion, and worth the Prime subscription alone. I think Goliath just edges it for me as it is terrific, and Billy Bob Thornton is amazing.

Now trying to decide what series to go for next. Anyone recommend something that involves violence, crime, thriller etc?

' Into the badlands ' is excellent...

Some amazing fight scenes and visually fun to watch.. Would recommend watching on a TV rather than a iPad.

Black sails is also fun... A sort of adult pirates of the carrabiean
