Idris Elba not to be Bond - thank christ.

Too 'street' apparently.
Really glad - talk of this seemed like a contrived move to prove that the team aren't racist, when the fact is he's just not suitable to play bond (much as Benedict Cumberbatch would not make a very good Mr T).

And he has acting ability, wouldn't want that in a bond.
Are there any non-caucasian actors that would be acceptable for the role?
Tom Hardy? Michael Fassbender? Henry Cavill? Damian Lewis? Tom Hiddleston? Are there any non-caucasian actors that would be acceptable for the role?

David Oyelowo, already worked across the river in Spooks.
Chiwetel Ejiofor
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje
David Harewood
I think this whole ‘thing’ is hilarious.
As far as I can see, the notion of Elba maybe playing Bond one day was entirely invented by the media and/or fans. There’s no current plan to find a new Bond actor. There’s no casting decision to be made. It’s just idle fantasy and speculation. And yet somehow the concept has caught on to such a degree that it’s now commented on every single time the Bond franchise or Elba are mentioned in the press. Him and his agent must be loving all the attention.

I think the Yaphet Kotto article linked to from the original Guardian article is very sensible tbh

I feel for the Guy, but I agree as much as I like Idris Elba I don't think he would be a great bond, and I understand why he used the term "street" but it was a poor choice of words. I know an actor can change persona, they wouldn't be actors otherwise, DC is nothing like Bond (he's a bit of a whiner in real life IMO), but Idris is a big guy with an intimidating build and presence and powerful voice - he'd be a great baddie, henchman or Bond ally in a battle, but he's no Bond.
I think it's a real shame that for the last couple of Bond changes the media want to push around the concept of a Black or Female or both actor to play Bond - either would be fine by me if they are the right sort of fit, but all they seem to do is say "right, who's Black and can act?" and throw out names like confetti.
