I'm a big fan of Idris Elba, he comes across as a cool guy,
You should watch his 'king of speed' programmes. You may just change your mind.
this is true

judging by that debacle he could have quite easily shot himself by mistake in the opening sequence.......

the fact is he's just not suitable to play bond (much as Benedict Cumberbatch would not make a very good Mr T).
Why don't you think he's suitable? Your example suggests you think he's the wrong colour.

Really? They've all starred in some well known films over the years.

David Oyelwo - Danny in Spooks TV series, Jack Reacher, Selma, Red Tails, The Butler, Lincoln, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Chiwetel Ejiofor - American Gangster, 12 Years a Slave, Serenity, Kinky Boots, Savannah, Inside Man, upcoming Ridley Scott film The Martian

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje - Congo, Bourne Identity, Faster, Killer Elite, Bullet to the Head, Thor 2, Legionnaire, Suicide Squad.

Guess you don't watch too many films...

Hahaha, methinks you need a whoosh parrot.

I was just talking about how their names look when written down like that.

Of course I know who they are, in fact have had coffee with Chiwetel!

Storm in a tea up. Bond wouldn't bring out the best in him at all.

In fact, I think it'll limit his career options in the future. He is too good in terms of ability and range to do a Bond type of film.

Should Malcom X. Muhammad Ali be played by a white actor/actress

Are there any non-caucasian actors that would be acceptable for the role?
Depends how close you follow Bond.

Bond has - Scottish ancestry ( Swiss mother) , family even has a coat of arms and a stately home.
It pretty much dictates the colour of the character.

Ditto - John Shaft.
I can't imagine a caucasian, or chinese, or indian actor playing him.

While I am sure we are all wanting to push for equality in all walks of life, having a Chinese actor play Nelson Mandela in a biopic probably won't work too well.

I reckon Idris would be a good Bond, and is suitable, but then I like DC and where the character (not the films) has been taken.

I agree that Bond should be British, but whilst his history is written in stone, or rather books, I don't think there's anything stopping a bit of poetic licence in what is fiction and not a biography. Might even be a bit of fresh air, and Felix Leiter had a slight race change once.

I think what's missing is any other similar franchise that's run for so long. I suppose nobody bothers to try.

I think this whole ‘thing’ is hilarious.

As far as I can see, the notion of Elba maybe playing Bond one day was entirely invented by the media and/or fans. There’s no current plan to find a new Bond actor. There’s no casting decision to be made. It’s just idle fantasy and speculation. And yet somehow the concept has caught on to such a degree that it’s now commented on every single time the Bond franchise or Elba are mentioned in the press. Him and his agent must be loving all the attention.
I thought Daniel Craig said this was "probably his last bond movie"?

Those worrying about a black man becoming 007, will love that Ginger ninja Damian Lewis (homeland) Is bookies favourite to be next apparently.

Yes but they were real people.

Bond was half Scottish half swiss, he went to Eton and Fettes, he was nothing like any of the Bond film characters physically. Connery was selected because the producers couldn't afford any well known actors. Ian Fleming didn't initially want Connery there at all. hehe

I'd rather it was Tom Hardy. He can be quite unpleasant and nasty like the real Bond was and Craig is.

chewitel can act, that "obviously" counts him out...

I think Idris would make a fine Bond. He's viewed as gritty due to the roles he has been cast in. That in itself is no reason not to consider him.

having said that I've thought all along that Michael Fassbender should be the next bond...
