Why the hell not?

You don't think there are black people working for MI6 / the SIS ?
Yaphet Kotto, the first Bond Villain to be played by a black guy, said himself that that Bond should remain white.

It's a very interesting debate IMO.

I kind of get why Bond could be black, after all he's a fictional character the same as Robert McCall was and I don't think anyone saw The Equalizer and though "No you can't have Denzel Washington playing him" did they?

It's very difficult to articulate and I suspect that's why people are wary of being accused of being racist, but I think Bond is a step too far for exactly the same reasons that example such as Derek Jacobi as Shaft or Stephen Fry as BA Baracus wouldn't work (and strangely enough have never been suggested).

Strange.
Moneypenny would be a rubbish Bond and it's not a realistic career progression, nor would Idris Elba make a good Moneypenny, so I'm not sure what you're getting at.

Should Malcom X. Muhammad Ali be played by a white actor/actress
Malcom X and Muhammad Ali are real people, Bond isn't.

If Bond must be white, must all descriptions of him in the book apply to the actor playing the role? Bond isn't blond in the books.

But I recall he also said that there's no problem with a black guy playing any other 00 Agent, just not 007.

I agree - I don't see it as racist whatsoever. You wouldn't have Ken Watanabe playing Hercule Poirot for the same reasons.

What the current Moneypenny? The field agent like James Bond prior only without '00' status who was put on administrative leave for shooting and as far as they could tell killing Bond - that one?

She's about a "made you fell it, did he?" away from a '00'

She is also Black, which of course it was he was on about.

Tom Hardy? Michael Fassbender? Henry Cavill? Damian Lewis? Tom Hiddleston?
Fassbender would rejuvenate the Bond character. His turn as the icily cool British special agent in the WWII movie Inglorious Basterds was a revelation.

I think Idris would make a fine Bond. He's viewed as gritty due to the roles he has been cast in. That in itself is no reason not to consider him.

having said that I've thought all along that Michael Fassbender should be the next bond...
I've long thought Chewy was perfect for playing Bond.
