Really looking forward to this, starts tonight at 9pm on BBC2 - Based on Danny Baker's autobiography, with Peter Kay playing his dad.

His autobiography is probably the only book that has had me laughing out loud, so if the show is anywhere near as good, it should be a great watch.

Cheers for the reminder - I'd forgotten!
Looking forward to this after the brilliant (PK) Car Share.

I enjoyed it. Always a worry when a favourite book is adapted for film or TV. It did have quite a few of the stories I recall from the book all in the first of eight episodes though. Maybe I've forgotten them?

I'd forgotten the tonic trousers!

Cracking first episode.
Now, if anyone can tell me the music that was used for the final scene, I'd be grateful. So many 70s classics there.

Really enjoyed it but whoever cast Kay as a London docker must think Lilly Savage would make a convincing Bond girl.

I enjoyed his performance as always but all the hours with his voice coach went to waste. Why not cast someone who wasn't born with the disability of a thick Bolton accent. Thick being the operative word. It took me a couple of minutes to get past that and after that just spent the rest of the show laughing.

Brilliant modern comedy. Who says there is no good comedy made any more.

Has Peter Kay been in anything before that he's not had a big part in writing?

really enjoyed that. Have read the books which ruined a couple of moments, the trousers in the coffin for example. Was crying with laughter when Peter Kay read the riot act to the tortoise.

It's going to take another watch for me. It was entertaining enough and I could watch anything with Peter Kay in it but that accent...

Also enjoyed it but agree with the above about Peter Kay, on the one hand he is the right sort of "character" for the part but on the other he is no sauf londoner. The accent didn't really work. Beyond that though great story line and as I've not read the book I was pissing myself about he trousers being on the dead kid in his coffin.

I thought it was superb.

The cock in the face in the theatre had me in tears of laughter

I watched it twice.

I am not an expert on dialects but I thing most of the issue for me was the fact that the accent was coming out of Peter Kays's mouth rather than the accent itself - I enjoyed it more the second time around as I was a bit more used to it.

Not as good as I'd hoped, but, coming from Southampton, maybe my dislike for the thieving workshy dockers of the 1970 tainted my enjoyment!?

Loved the music though smile

So Danny Baker is the son of a relentless and unashamed thief, that figures!
Really? What has Danny Baker done in his career that now makes sense to you, now you know his dad was a thief?

Thanks. Great song.
Just watched the 1971 video on YouTube. Looks like ancient history now.

Coronation Street too but I really meant playing a major part.
