Good start to the series, with some laugh out loud moments, especially the trousers....now if I can just get past Peter Kay's awful cockney accent...why didn't they just cast a proper cockney? The main thing that makes Peter Kay funny (in my opinion) is his Bolton accent so not sure what he adds to this

Will look past it though. I loved the books and love Danny Bakers radio shows - Loved it when he had the breakfast show on BBC Radio London years ago....used to actually try to take longer getting to work so I could listen to them.

I think Kay has got away with the really crap voice attempt as the rest of his acting ability makes up for it.

I'll stick with it for a bit but wasn't overly impressed. I can do a better cockney accent than Kay and i'm from ruddy yorkshire....!!

I agree with you zeb. I haven't listened to Danny Baker nor read his book so he's just another occasionally heard name to me, one who has had very average early life from what I've seen so far.

I don't know that many people who've had anything other than an average life by their early teens. In his book at least, it gets quite interesting - he can claim to be one of those people who 'was there' when a big chunk of our pop culture was defined, and ended up mixing with some of the biggest names. It seems to me the series is going to be more of a period piece about childhood (teenagehood?) though.

Really? What has Danny Baker done in his career that now makes sense to you, now you know his dad was a thief?
I have given him the benefit of doubt, for now! smile
I uphold my original statement!

His books are excellent, real laugh out loud stuff and being of a similar vintage to Baker many of his stories have a certain resonance with me too. On the radio he was good too, especially on the early days of 606 on R5L. Like I said, i'll stick with it for now but kay is not for me the best choice for the charecter of his dad, needs a Ray Winston type

Well that series went downhill quickly. Enjoyed episode 1, but episode 2 was dull. I'll give it episode 3 to redeem itself.

Do you all watch Boy Meets Girl straight after it, that's a better series so far IMO!

I would have to agree with a previous poster that the second episode wasn't as funny as the first. Will still stick with it though.

Nice little cameos played by Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford of Squeeze as the band playing the Anniversary Waltz in the second episode. They are also responsible for the theme tune of course.

Really? I thought the scene when the floor fell out of the caravan was hilarious!

p.s. Chaps, a Bermondsey accent is not Cockney, it's 'Saaf Lundin'

I heard PK being interviewed ... he said that the episodes wouldn't be as light-hearted from now on.
