I struggled with it from the start.
I think the reviews were kind. It stuttered around listlessly, rare moments of good stuff (Spuds writtings) - anyone notice the Blade runner nod?
(I'm a film need).
By contrast I watched T1 on a rerun a year ago and from the start you were viscerally rammed into the film and had it rammed into your eyeballs.

I agree. The ending saved it. Up until then it was just very loosely linked set pieces which although funny in there own right could have existed well outside the core narrative.I think the reviews were kind. Had been looking forward to it being released when I heard it was being made so went Friday afternoon (first time I've ever gone to watch a film on release day)
Perhaps hyped it too much in my head as the original was so good so expectations were high, but the bar was set very high to beat.
Did enjoy it, but not quite as "smack" (pun intended) in face as the first film which had some real jaw dropping moments in. As mentioned lots of funny moments ("1690" anyone) and trying work out how it's going to pan out. Spud was excellent as per the first film and star of the film I think
Think we're all, to quote Renton, looking for "one last hit" which won't be quite what we expected.
If you look at it (as The Limla said previously) as a nostalgic catch up with some characters you like to see how it's all panned out 20 years on it's pretty much nailed it.

The Stath was meant to be in for viva la madness, not sure if it will go forward.Worth pointing out that Layer Cake was made in 2004! So would be 14 years later!
watched it today, it was pretty solid but lacking in places. Like someone mentioned Renton was 'a tourist in his own youth' so exploring his past relationship with Diane would have been better than the foreign chick.
Can anyone remember the name of the character who owned the rival 'sauna' and took Sick boy and Renton to the woods? His acting was awful I thought and spoilt it a but for me, akin to Lenny Mclean in Lock stock.
The 'Choose life' quote was well done imo but this film was missing something akin to 'It's s
te being scottish' the shock factor of the baby's death and some of the other 'narrative quotes from Sick boy and Renton'

Doyle... played by Bradley Welsh according to google. I thought the film was great but without seeing the first it would have been nonsense really!

Just googled him and it seems he's a mate of Irvine Welsh which explains him getting a part as he can't act for all the Haggis in Scotland. I thought the film was great but without seeing the first it would have been nonsense really!

It's a fair while since it was suggested The Stath was in, not sure what if anything has been done since.
If Daniel Craig is free and interested I assume he could fund it himself now.

At my showing some stupid girl had gone to the toilet (for the second time) and while she was there her phone rang, nice and loud, and her boyfriend had to dig through her bag to find it. She got back, put her feet up on the back of the seat in front of her and sat playing with her phone, I could see she was on Facebook, so when he did the little Choose Life thing she actually stopped playing with her phone! I could have given him a round of applause because it couldn't have been better timed.Saw it tonight, it isn't as gritty as the first one, but that isn't a bad thing.
The scene with Renton taking the piss out of Begbie's viagra in the club toilets was timed to perfection
Plenty of nods to the first one, and although the setup for the deception was fairly obvious, I wasn't expecting how the pub scene played out.
Strong 8.5/10 for me, possibly even a 9 in all honesty.

.Saw it last night. Great, though throughout I felt that I was conscious of myself waiting for the moment that it gripped me the way the original did and this moment never came. Got off to a slower start than the original and I wondered when I'd be into the groove of it. About a quarter of the way in I realised I was properly locked into it. I'd say it held my attention but wasn't the epic that seemed to be over in two minutes that the first one was. I wondered the same thing about Begbie that kev1974 mentioned in his spoiler earlier in this thread. Enjoyable enough, I just hope they don't start banging another out every two years now!
