Man after my own heart with the YouTube bids. 14t barrowed half hour is some going.
Is that even possible?
Supposing a wheelbarrow load is 50kg, that is 280 trips to move 14t. Even if he was getting 100kg in there its still 140 trips.
Loading the barrow, turning it wheel it tip andcreturn... If that takes less than a minute I'd be surprised but at 30 secs per barrowfull would take 70 minutes!
To do it in 30 minutes he would have to do each trip in about 12 seconds!

Enjoyed this week's, although it'll be interesting to see if they can pull off the end result well. Sometimes a consistent use of fairly amateurish methods and finishes winds up looking stunning and warm.

Next week's looks like one where I hate the owners and the finished article.

I wondered this as I'm looking at a 1.5cu slab and worked out we would be pushed In half hour.

Been out to cinema so been watching it delayed. I liked that one, nice couple and nothing flashy or OTT.

About that German cow shed at the beginning. Having a massive barn then having the rooms as suspended pods, I don't get it. It seemed like a lot of lost space, even if it was a holiday home.

I thought the German place was great. He didn't want to spoil it or waste heating all the unused space.

Regarding the lack of babies this week I reckon Kev preferred the bloke... he couldn't praise him enough!

Concrete worktops are terrible, I thought the whole house and program a bit dull and amateurish.
Glad I'm not on my own thinking this and £40K for that roof?

Concrete worktops!

Let's be grateful for the powers of Building Control.

Impressive job and likeable couple, not convinced by some aspects of the finished shell, nut some really very pleasant spaces. And done for the square root of sod all. Seemed like a good bloke.

Milpoundprop is amusing too.

agreed, enjoyed this one, always a few things I would do different (straw interior walls were silly) but there again I wouldn't be capable of doing what that guy did, lovely views and looks like they have a very nice future ahead of them if they can make their businesses work

It'll look nice once they've finished it and made it a home. I look forward to the follow up show. I can't see the crappy straw walls surviving until then.

I thought that too. Whatever they were building, it looked like a Belfast police station at the hight of the troubles.

£500k for the barn conversion in Somerset. These people must be about 30 and getting married. I thought I had a good job!

She sold her flat in London for £400k to fund it
Think one set of parents paid for the roof (£40k) as a wedding present

A revisit in a few years would be good to see how they are getting on

Nice couple, disappointing build. Sure, he got stuck in, but without experience and understanding of builds coming together, it looked incoherent and felt far too shed-like at the end. They'd spent half a mil on it, and ended up with cheap plastic sockets, no detailing and open spaces that had no flow.

I'd be concerned that the external insulation might have similar detailing problems - and it only takes a small gap or poorly linked edge to undo all the value of your acres of insulation.

That was my general opinion too. Could have been a lot better in the detailing of the design and overall finishing inside and out. Really did not like the roof line on the rear section - at least one too many changes in profile which just made it look like they'd stuck a roof on what was already there. With just a bit more block-work on both walls it could have been evened out and probably also simplified and reduced their roofing costs.

The paper says this is in my home county of Somerset. Do we know where? I'm sat here trying to spot any landmarks to help me locate it.
Same, by the look of the parents I was thinking chew magna area?
Much further south. About a mile northeast of Winsham.

Good for him that he tried but the end result was predictably amateurish, it wasn't a particularly attractive building to start with which didn't help. I have never seen a concrete kitchen top that looked good.

You could certainly tell he wasn't a tradesman laying concrete like that. He was doing it properly if possibly a little dry but it beats seeing the proper tradesmen pouring it in like soup to let it find it's own level! Good luck to them and nice to see a grafter instead of somebody with more money than sense!
