Wish they could leave a time lapse camera to show progress rather than just turning up every three months.
Indeed! Would make the build far more interesting.

These two have got some seriously generous/forgiving friends!
Agreed! Saved at least £100k - the benefit of staying in one place your whole life.

That spray insulation is expensive, brother is having the walls done in this house for about £2500, I'm guessing its the same stuff (Polyurethane foam).contractors have been a pita for this stuff.

One night with too many shandies and I'd be straight off that walkway.

Looks good, I would want a handrail for stumbling home in the dark on the ET spaceship path. Lovely views.

Surely going to be railings on that eventually.

The rest of it though...stunning.

Lovely house, perfectly designed. Really thought they'd struggle with all the regulations but impressed they didn't go over the budget that much.

How did go & get bits from old factory's & places? Want to find some old wood to create a kitchen table but not idea where to look?

Impressively close to budget really given the unique nature of the building.

A lovely place to go home to after a hard day at work.

The only thing was the 2 supports at the corner were not straight, looked a bit odd with the others in the line being straight.

You get good at spotting and claiming it. To the point where you end up with a garage full of wood 'for projects' and you can't get to your tools. Allegedly.

Look for a place with a skip outside and ask if you can root through and take anything they have dumped (or go at night with a torch and don't ask).

Done very, very well.

Could easily live there.

One thing GD has never done is talk values. In most cases I agree, however in examples such as this I do think it's worth pointing out quite how much they've saved through self labour, favours and access to materials and prices non-trades could never get. It would highlight the achievement as well as giving more realistic expectations.

Artwork, both paintings and ceramics, are stunning.

Kevin seemed to spend more time with the bloke, divining and painting, perhaps seeing someone who looked much like himself awoke the true love in Kevin for himself rather than his empty life of impregnating every woman he meets (or my Malbec is stronger than usual).

It was a lovely, genuine build and a perfect location.

I'm not sure how much he 'saved' by doing it himself - nearly two year's of a plumber's labour is a fair whack of money. The big savings were for things like the salvaged materials and 'mates rates', where someone else's labour is going cheap.
