I'll confess, we did wonder whether she was going to live long enough to see it finished. I'm sure that happened once (?) before, young couple, he died, she had to scale the build back to be able to finish it?

I'm also getting a little bit bored of Edison bulbs now.

Shame. I was going to put some in my kitchen, but people will think I'm a sheep now, so I can't...

Indeed, the one with the split roof, IIRC.

I thought it was quite nice when you consider the budget.

When we did our "GD" my biggest fear was falling ill and leaving the Mrs in the st. As I took a big hands on role in it, not getting injured was paramount as we couldn't afford delays. She even joked about taking extra insurance out on me but I told her I didn't want her to have any more incentive to push me off the roof.

As it happened, the worst I suffered on a 12 month build was a splinter in my index finger. On other occasions I've found myself in A&E just doing a bit of gardening.

Not seen this weeks yet as I watched the program about Aberfan instead so am looking forward to seeing this one.

Also, where did those neighbouring houses spring from?!!

One minute it's a forest glade, the next there's a bungalow in the garden!
They were very careful with most camera angles to hide the other house. The show would have felt more honest if they'd made this clearer and it was probably the real reason for the lack of windows. They tried to pretend it was an architectural decision based on light quality when in reality they were just overlooked by neighbours. Maybe they'd even convinced themselves?

I thought it was built to a budget similar to a jail. Feature full height glazing was anything but - lots of small panes. I've seen far better but you get what you pay for.

Didn't seem to be that great for a build price of £250,000 to me. Seems a lot of money for a timber-frame and concrete slab. They didn't even splash money out on the kitchen, which I thought was actually one of the best bits. the doors on a £4k kitchen look much the same as a £25k kitchen from a couple of feet away.

Didn't like it... rooms looked dark, the view out onto the side of a big black boxy studio, exposed wiring/plumbing...

I really liked the setting in the woods and how it blended in. Must be relaxing spending time outside it in the garden as well. Always do.
Kitchen slab was nice.

They did say right near the beginning that there were no windows so they had privacy, nobody could see anything. I got the impression that she at least is a very private person.

I think the end result was Ok, not for me but they seemed genuinely happy with it so good on them.

Watched it tonight as away, I didn't realise there was a house so close until the end shots. I am not a fan of concrete kitchens and thought it looked a bit industrial with the wiring fixtures etc for the woodland setting. On the other hand they built it on time and almost to budget so it was a success for them and they liked it which is the main thing.

Just watched on catchup, didnt like that at all, the wood setting was nice but that was about it. How much time will they spend cleaning all the light tubes from all the leaf debris theyll permanently be covered in hehe

not at all my taste - but then they're happy with it so that's all that counts. May have to take a drive past to see what it looks like from the road

Yet another good build in my opinion. Impractical finishes and not sure why they compromised the build using block work rather than timber frame but a worthwhile project overall.

Next weeks looks a DIY disaster.

Do you know the area? It looked to me that there may be a quite a lot of public access to the woods.

great build, though I must say I was rather taken with the old house...
Thought the outside looked amazing, one of the best ever with how it combined with the old buildings, but the interior was too cluttered, woody or impractical. Real mixed build for me
