Don't get me started on Stewpot.
Back in the late 70s my Mum wrote in to the show to get a request played for my 7th birthday, Toast by The Streetband. Stewpot read out my name, wished me a happy birthday and said I wanted to hear "Thank heavens for little girls" by Maurice Chavalier.
Oh, the shame.
I think his song choice was maybe some kind of cry for help.

Which one was that?
Don't tell me Fernando was gay
Does your mother know? Which unfortunately now just sounds like a kiddy fiddler at a discoDon't tell me Fernando was gay
"Thank Heavens, For Little Girls" is another matter entirely - especially when sung by somebody in their 70s (as it was in the film).

Just introduce this one yourself over the opening guitar in a Saville stylee voice.
"Now then, now then, here's a lovely lovely song about a lovely lovely schoolgirl. Goodness gracious" etc

There are loads of older songs that now seem a bit dubious to our more warped and devious minds. It's not the songs that were dubious, it's us.
Sweet Little Sixteen
Sixteen Candles
She Was Only Sixteen
Hello Little Girl
Claire
And some of the young girls who were singing about boyfriends, love and - dare I say it - sex - in the early 1960s were VERY young.
Lulu was only 14 when she recorded "Shout".
Helen Shapiro was only 14 when she recorded "Don't Treat Me Like a Child".
In the US, Brenda Lee, Little Eva and Little Peggy March were all under 16 when they had big hits.
The world was very different 50 years ago.

Jerry Lee Lewis' 3rd wife was 13 when he was 22. Caused uproar when it was revealed and his recording company pretended she was 15 (ah, that's OK then...)Sweet Little Sixteen

Whilst I'm no fan of Steve Wright, all the time Jeremy Vine has a show on R2, that will continue to be my main source irritation. And by irritation, I mean making me want to rip my own ears off.
They should rename that programme to, "fking braindead s, give us a ring right now!"He's far worse than any of the bilge Wright puts out.

Radmac at 1pm weekdays. Head and shoulders above everything else on the radio. Very natural together and very funny, they also play decent music both old and new.
Steve Wright, embarrassingly awful. Even Sally traffic can't stand him.
Yes. RadMac every time. Can't go wrong. Steve Wright, embarrassingly awful. Even Sally traffic can't stand him.

To be fair he does sound a little bit less of a threat to her personal safety than Ken Bruce and his weird creepy innuendoesSteve Wright, embarrassingly awful. Even Sally traffic can't stand him.

I cannot stand the Steve Wright show in the afternoon. Earlier in the thread, someone summed it up as "middle of the road", which is about the best insult I can think of. Beige. Inoffensive. Bland. Awful.
I know Wrighty gets a lot of stick, but he is no worse than anyone else on Radio 2. If they were to get rid of anyone it would have to be Vine. Or Evans. Or Bruce.krunchkin said:
