I am closing in on the +50 demographic these days so ideally I 'should' fit into the R2 camp?

Up until 9-10am on a Friday I do with the Chris Evans show. A radio version of TFI IMHO and always worth a listen. Between 10-around 6pm it's off. A radmon bit of Brice occasionally but other wise given a wide berth. Thu and Fri nights they have a country hour with Bob Harris and the folk one with Mark Radcliffe which is good for a bit of 'alternative' listening. Outside of that R2 is off again. 'Wrighty' needs to be shifted to some remote Hebridean island's regional station and only on air between 0200-0500. Serious Jockin' you have got to be frockin' kidding!!

Thank god for DAB. Until the recent shift of Teamrock that was the station of choice but now I make do with Radio 6 or Planetrock (though that gets samey after a while, then I stick some Rammstein on).

Radmac at 1pm weekdays. Head and shoulders above everything else on the radio. Very natural together and very funny, they also play decent music both old and new.

Steve Wright, embarrassingly awful. Even Sally traffic can't stand him.
To be fair he does sound a little bit less of a threat to her personal safety than Ken Bruce and his weird creepy innuendoes
I can't stand Sally traffic, but you mustn't have noticed she actually isn't on Wrights or Bruces show and hasn't been for maybe a year now.....
I'm afraid I don't listen to R2 enough to be able to differentiate between the various traffic dollybirds that the ageing jocks like to salivate over

I know Wrighty gets a lot of stick, but he is no worse than anyone else on Radio 2. If they were to get rid of anyone it would have to be Vine. Or Evans. Or Bruce.
He certainly isn't worse than the excellent Paul Jones and Bob Harris doing Blues and Country respectively . The odd time I hear Wright it feels forever 1977, same lame banter , same massive ego (love the effing show Steve - no you don't ), same glibness and same complete disinterest in music. I also get the impression he has never been out of London.

Wright's main function is to prompt me to listen to R6 Music and the wonderful Ratcliffe and Maconie- smart, funny , hugely knowledgeable about music and genuinely likeable presenetrs.

I was listening to Craig Charles on R6 yesterday evening.

Probably not mainstream enough but that's a radio show.

That's what the internet is for - commenting and judging on something you know nothing about.
Thinking about it some more; Sally traffic has never done Bruce's show. Oddly enough I hate the traffic news more than anything else on R2, I wish they'd scrap that.

Scrap it? It's the only reason I have the radio on. It's a national radio station so does traffic news for the whole country where as local stations only do local traffic which is no good for someone like me.

I don't want any of these so called entertainers, music & traffic is all I want.

Absolute radio is pretty good.

rock music, no chat over songs and they normally play 2 to 3 songs without any interruptions.

I was trying to listen to that on the way home the other night. Three minutes of music followed by ten minutes of adverts. Terrible. Listened to a CD instead.

Isn't it odd that the one of these programmes is on a relative backwater radio-wise (slightly less so than it was since the BBC have started publicising it a little), and the other -which most on here seem to agree is total garbage- is on probably the biggest station, audience-wise, in the UK.

But after every song ?.....commercial radio is spoilt by adverts no matter how good it maybe.
~
I do not want to get all relaxed listing to a favourite track only to be woken up by some bloody double glazing jerk SHOUTING CRAP at me....that is as bad as a Dick-Head like SW or some pratt that sits with him talking bks at me.

No BBC ? then my own Music thanks

Yep, the only thing I listen to with ads is James O'Brien on LBC. I only listen to him as he starts the same time as Woman's Hour on R4 and finishes when You and Yours is over.

I tried Jonny Vaughan's new show but the ads ruined it for me.

I must have been driving VERY quickly then. An advert break lasted long enough for me to drive from Uttoxeter to Cheadle, some seven miles the majority of which is a 40mph limit with some of it dropping to a 30 limit.
