Serious question - is anyone is thinking of applying for the next TV series, but not just apply for 21 or 23 SAS?

At least you get a beret and a badge at the end of it.

Not really the same thing is it, two weeks on TV or potentially going to war zones after a lot more strenuous selection process.

Three thoughts -

1) These guys really deserve to do well out of this. I hope the initial interest from the show translates into a long term business.
2) Nice touch to have the winners from the show on the site.
3) I would sign up, but I'd embarrass you all (er, hang on....)

A very interesting series, but I wonder how they prepare you for captivity in the real world where the nasty man in addition to shouting at you is likely to have pliers, cigarettes, bits of rubber hose, a car battery and some jump leads in his unpleasant toolkit?

Did anyone happen to notice what make of boot the DS were wearing round the barracks? The only feature I could make out was a leather 'stirrup' detail (stitched, not literally a stirrup!) round the back of the heel.

They could tell you, but then they'd have to kill you... biggrin

Break-Point looks fun, but to paraphrase one of the participants, I suspect I'd be a gasping old man with a dodgy knee in a child's world...

Giving away the secrets. Like, Selection is easier if you are very fit...During Interrogation they use mind games.....During escape and evasion you WILL be captured...and other SAS super secrets.

None of those are exactly a secret though as there have been plenty of programs about the selection process to date.

Whoosh parrots are flocking your way.

Selection was different for my local county regiment...

Colonel of the Regiment - 'Can you say "Urgh"?
Candidate - 'Urgh'.
Colonel = 'Splendid. Can you say "Herh"?
Candidate - 'Herh'.
Colonel - 'Excellent. Can you say "Lerh"?
Candidate - "Lerh"
Colonel - 'Well done. Can you say them all together?'
Candidate - 'UrghHerhLerh'
Colonel - 'You're in!!'

Because they are profiting from a cheap, bdized, made-for-tv version of something the serving guys hold very dear, which is the 6 month slog known as 'selection'. Added to which, it showed nothing of the incredibly sophisticated aspects of that process. There was nothing except a bit of a physical beasting followed by an inaccurate glimpse into an RTI scenario. Ultimately it was completely unenlightening, (even allowing for the fact that it couldn't be revealing).

Just reporting back on what I was told, that's all.

I don't suppose anyone really thinks it's like that for real, but it was an interesting insight. I don't suppose they'd be very happy for a TV series to reveal all the tricks of the trade, either...

Actually, thinking back, there was a similar (quite well done) thing on the French Foreign Legion some years ago...
