You're missing the more obvious point that they actually kill people.
How have I missed the point?

He won the show because he passed the relevant tests and they thought he would fit into the SF world. Irrespective of his past.
He wouldn't fit into the SF world, he passed the bench mark to be in their gang as such.
Not even close to passing the benchmark for SF. Its a game show based on SF, not the real thing.

I notice the Scottish SAS man Maclachan (?) was not in this series. Funny that...

I wonder if his story broke before filming, or whether he was actually in but got edited out before it went to air.
What story?
'Mental woman fks about with blokes life' type story... anyone who contacts a 'celeb' via Twitter soliciting a relationship has wrong'un writ large all over them.

He was the best candidate. Whilst I agree being a reformed criminal isn't to one's credit, it's better than being an unreformed criminal, isn't it? They did seem to put more credit on his reformation than those with a seemingly blameless past (is being a drug dealer and bank robber any better than being a drug's cheat in sport?), but I don't think that was the deciding factor.

I'm not sure WHY the other guy ('Poshboy') was failed for giving his real name eventually. Was it simply that he changed his story? I thought the point was to give away as little as possible, changing his story at that point was not REALLY giving much away, he could have just made up another name...

I wish no-one had mentioned Rylan earlier on, though... He was right, once you've seen it, you can't get it out of your head! biggrin

Think it was due to them saying not to ps off the interrogators and by lying to them, thats what he was doing, though the whole cover story is a lie as well (which didnt last all that long). Whether if he had stuck to his guns hed have survived i dont know but i guess it showed that he didnt have the character and cracked?

Yeah sorry about that lol

Miles from the benchmark, I doubt he'd pass the fan dance especially in winter.

Didn't they (different contestants) do the fan dance on the last series?

Presumably all the tough guys on here who think the contestants are game show wusses will be showing us how it's done in the next series?
Unfortunately not, can't see them letting me play

No but a lot of us have served in the forces and have a better understanding of forces training, and know what it would take to move into SF.

This show is a very short look at some of the selection process, but its far from the real thing.

I missed the bit where it purported to be as such?

It was in response to a poster saying that the winner would fit into the SF world. Its a very small taste of selection so not really comparible.

I was in the RN and I've spend more time being kicked around the breacon beacons than they spent on "selection".

I thought it was an euphemism, what with being in the Navy an all that.

Posh boy was dropped because he had lied to his interogator, which would have ended up in him being slotted in real life.

You have to rely on your backstory during the interrogation phase and believe it as much as you can, even when they present you with "facts" about you, if you deviate it will show you as a liar and of no use to your captors. They touched on it a bit near the end but the backstory of why you are there is as important as anything else on the mission, if you read about captured SF guys you always read how they tell their captors they are the lowest of the low and were just doing their job (almost always reluctantly too, so as to build a rapport with the captors). If found to be SF they would become trophy's to their captors and would be worth a lot more politically.

Inventing a cover story about being a relief effort is a bit daft -

'We are a charity relief effort'

- relief from what?

- Er, the earthquake?

- what earthquake? Guard, shoot this one.

Far better would have been:

'I am taking part in a game show'

I'd go for the Anthony Quinn approach from 'The Guns of Navarone'. But without the heroic switcheroo at the end.
