Chris Harris must modernise and up his game
Discussion

I agree with this 2CV video, GT3 4.0 video, RS2000 video - all greats and more memorable than most of his videos. I get a bit bored of the silly sideways stuff.
I think Harry Metcalfe does by far the best car videos, period.
Bah! I just searched for that thinking I'd missed an oldskool Escort gem..........but then came to the conclusion you meant the RS200 oneI think Harry Metcalfe does by far the best car videos, period.
Interesting how quickly the discussion focussed on how frequently (or not) Harris posts 'content' (I regrettably thought the same).
Would agree as a prematurely grumpy 33y/o that the recent 'generation' of Youtubers can't touch Harris in almost any way re quality. However, even as a prematurely grumpy 33y/o I absolutely get the appeal of more regular (pref weekly/ min fortnightly) new videos regardless of how they might lack the 'depth' of a typical Harris vid.
There are non-motoring Youtube channels that have engrossed me, then (to my shame) lost my attention after a few weeks of inactivity. Same applies to Harris, although he never put out much regular content in the first place.
A UK equivalent to eg. /DRIVE (featuring Harris, Metcalfe, someone else) could expect to receive afew of my hard-earned each month. Even a slightly more polished/ longer/ in-depth version of Matt Farah's 'One Take' might be worth afew quid imho (although 'Jamie's Impreza STI, *insert UK B-road here*' somehow appeals less than what Farrah is doing in California).
Harris really doesn't maximise Twitter either, which can be a useful platform to progress into longer Youtube/ paid stuff. Even some seconds-long Vines to tease the myriad nice cars he has access to would help foster interest. In the sense that he doesn't really commit to all available social media platforms, yes, he does need to 'modernise and up his game' (whether we like such platforms or not).
Listening to his gripes about not being able to monetise his work on the JRE, I can't help but think he's either lazy, ignorant of or just personally ambivalent/ unmotivated about increasing his presence in the social media world. Surely the most obvious way to bring in new (potentially paid) viewers to a 'channel'?

Tim 'shmee150' Burton has access to some nice cars and can clearly afford to spend loads of time doing videos about them but he's DRY and DULL. Everything he sees is amazing and wonderful and fantastic and I have no need to watch anything he makes because I already know what he's going to say about it...
Don't forget 'crazy'. Everything is 'crazy', even stuff like walking up a flight of stairs You can't fault his enthusiasm though. In the vid of him seeing his 675 LT at the end of the production line at McLaren he really sounded like a kid at Christmas and at some points was having difficulty talking due to excitement.
I just wish there was more proper driving stuff though. He's had a 675 LT, GT4 and Ferrari FF in the South of France and all you see is him bumbling around Casino Square or going to the car wash.
Get the GT4 up to the Col de Turini and just thrash the nuts of it.
As for Harris' other stuff the Morgan 3 wheeler and Cayman Supersport R vid was really enjoyable too.
These things always get into the "I like X, I don't like Y" sort of thing.
Have I mentioned I think Harry Metcalfe is the best? Like your big older brother / dad taking you for a spin when you visit him.
A couple of comments. Firstly as someone mentioned, compared to some of the things that are on youtube now that cost nothing to make and are dire and yet get 12 million views from 9-13 year olds, Chris Harris etc are all doing a fantastic job. Of course I am biased towards cars. But even if they were doing video's about canal holidays they would still be better.
If you watch Jethro drive the Huracan on Evo working for a magazine does give you a safety net if you want to be critical of the manufacturer. I just take that into account.
What's all this about Schmee doing the posh bling cars? I'm still waiting for Harris to drive the Insignia and Mondeo estates back to back. If he took his dogs around Anglesey track in the back he's get a st load of views also.

Rubbish - there are plenty of clips of the ff being blasted up the mountains You can't fault his enthusiasm though. Charisma and decent cinematography count for a great deal in my book. Chris Harris will always have an outlet for his talent and can as easily find opportunities on mainstream TV as much as Youtube. In terms of longevity, he's streaks ahead of most others and clearly has a brilliant team in place to capture everything stunningly beautifully. I can't imagine he loses any sleep over his youtube hits.
In terms of competition, I find many of the Petrolicious videos to be beautifully shot (and generally with more emotive (true petrolhead)) content - the Miura video is just stunning and there are many more (weekly). Ben Brown is pretty good on the cinematography, locations (The Cape never fails to stun in its beauty and he spends a lot of time there),editing, music and he certainly has some charm. Otherwise, many of the Moto Vloggers seem to have more going on than the car ones, Royal Jordanian and Baron Von Grumble are certainly worth a watch from time to time.
As someone who grew up at a time when there were at first just 3 daytime TV channels, we're spoilt for choice!

I think there is a law that you have to post something daily.
Or twice in the same nanosecond?sorry. Shonky internet. When I first posted it, nothing showed up! Hopefully connection issues are to be banished today by BT.....doubtful.
This video sums up the Youtubers perfectly https://www.carthrottle.com/post/w6gekj6/
I find this topic quite weird tbh. I'm not sure what the obsession with CH seems to be, a minor motor journalist celebrity at best but it all seems a little bit bizarre and slightly unhealthy at times if you ask me and not just from the OP either. I guess in many PH'ers eyes he is doing a dream job but the obsession with what he does, how he earns his money etc seems a bit too invasive and dare I say creepy at times.
Also I'm not sure anyone on the forum is really qualified to tell CH what he MUST do. He's been doing this job for quite a while so probably has a good idea of what he wants to do and achieve. He has never seemed short of a few quid either so I'm sure he is doing OK, not sure he really needs advice on what he MUST do from some random posters on an internet forum.
Again bizarre.

You don't seriously believe anyone is really telling him what he must do though surely? Also I'm not sure anyone on the forum is really qualified to tell CH what he MUST do.
