Trouble is that people forget the reason many actors are amusing/funny/intelligent is because they've remembered lines that a writer has written for them.

He wont need to worry there as the new TG will be just as scripted as the old TG wink

Would recommend reading "And on that bombshell". The writing process heavily involved the old three as well you know!

I'm sure LeBlanc will get help with jokes and stuff. I'm looking forward to it.

So what do we think, no Harris or Sabine? Or its going to be a later announcement ?

It would have been very hard to sell Top Gear outside the UK with just Evans' face - nobody knows him. Getting 'Joey from Friends' is an extremely easy way of fixing that. I've always got the impression that a lot of the show's popularity was based on its British identity so bringing in LeBlanc and (potentially) Sabine Schmitz are interesting moves.

Not Harris then?
Suppose we could wait and see if Harris re-opens up his Patreon account.
Seriously?

Of all of the people on the planet to present the new top gear, the best they can come up with is Matt LeBlanc...

He always seems a decent enough chap when appearing as himself on the television, and seems as much as an enthusiast as any of the rest of us.

I sometimes wonder what people expect from a presenter when both a household name like Le Blanc and a well known motoring journalist like Harris are deemed unacceptable choices.

Does the new 'Joey' shuffle up to women and give them a smile and say "You're a whole new thing...!"

I liked his character on Friends and he's clearly a big car fan, but he was a pretty dull guest on Top Gear.

'When they offered me this signed picture of James May...' Haha

Yes, I thought that too. But "Britishness" is better liked abroad than it is amongst British media people.

I agree with you, that's why, without sounding like Nigel Farage, I think it needed a British line-up. Personally I don't even think Matt LeBlanc would have been a good choice for American Top Gear but I'm sure it'll pull in the audience that would have avoided an Evans-only show.

That and it pulls in 50% of the UK viewing figures.

It strikes me as an intelligent move and he always seems like both a car nut and an amusing bloke.

Chuck in Monkey as the token diversity program disabled, lesbian and you've arguably got a good team that can throw a bit of abuse around at each other.
