He is on Fifth Gear now. I think that is certainly "upping his game".

Shmeemobile, Shmeeple, Shmeeting, ShmeeT4. Enough said.

His YT revenue is circa £120k based on subscribers/views, nowhere near enough to own a McLaren, Ferrari and GT4.

This is my personal opinion.
Well now the expert has given his opinion its obvious his revenue is illegal and shady, better call HMRC rolleyes
Err, no, see my previous post about his dad you fecking moron wink

Shmee is a massive bellend with a rich daddy. His reviews are questionable and his voice irritates me.
eek That's a bit harsh!

I've watched a fair few of Schmee's videos, and I've never heard him say a bad word about anybody or anything, he just seems to be full of enthusiasm and joy for supercars - what's wrong with that? Why does that make him a 'massive bellend'?

I'm also not sure what you mean by saying he has a rich Dad? Do you somehow think Schmee's Dad pays for his lifestyle?! As far as I remember, Schmee had a job in the city and started out making of supercars around London. He then saved up his own money to buy a secondhand R8 and now earns his money from You Tube advertisements. What's wrong with that? He's paid his own way, and unlike many high earners, appears to be a genuinely nice person.

This is my personal opinion.
He's probably got other income streams - have a read of his bio. He's a successful guy, and good luck to him.

I can't fault Chris' videos, though I must admit it would be nice to see more of them. But I can appreciate how the content has slowed down a bit given he's effectively going solo. That said, things probably haven't slowed down much for him, with trips here and there and stuff to sort out all the time. That's the impression I have anyway.

One of my favourite aspects of Chris' videos is when you get quick bursts of enthusiasm and 'look at this' when a car is being appraised. It evokes feelings of trying something new or getting acquainted with a new or different car for the first time. This was more evident in his older videos such as when he got a white V8 M3 and was showing us round it after taking delivery, commenting on orange peel paint and random things he has spotted all over the car.

An in-person (rather than voiced-over) walk around the car works really well to introduce a video, in my opinion, and offers opportunities for insight, humour and engagement that a more conventional arty or narrated scene-setter lacks.

He seems to have found his style but I think mixing it up a bit every now and then is always good. Sometimes the format of introduction, track drifting and words gets a bit stale, though the hypercar trio was an absolutely luxurious extravaganza of content that made me very happy indeed.

Despite the highs of being behind the wheel and following a fascinating industry as it evolves in front of you, I imagine it's not an easy job, with many flights and tight schedules to deal with. Though if he borrowed a 306 GTI-6 or an Integra Type-R and drove the nuts off it down a B-road, I'd be all ears (and eyes). Though plenty of people have done that already. Or have they?

I just hope he keeps going and if he can keep up a steady stream of videos, that'll be great.
I must admit I do like some of the Petrolicious videos and the Gear98 ones ( e.g. Like the recent E21 and AE86 ones ) and I've watched all of Chris' stuff.

The only Schmee ones I've watched were ages ago when he used to record Lamborghinis razzing up and down London streets. The subject matter or venue didn't really appeal to me so I haven't watched any more

I enjoyed CH's work the most when he worked with /Drive and released weekly videos.

Now that he's gone independent he has to focus on what brings in the most press exposure/hits/money per time invested (hypercars, supercars, sponsored content).

Unfortunately for me that's not the type of videos I enjoyed the most: weekly in-depth reviews and comparisons of "warm" everyday cars and updates on his personal projects like the green 911, 2CV, rally M3 and S4.

I am trying to "vote" using patreon whenever he posts a video that interests me but lately those are few and far in between, so I've resubscribed to the Evo magazine instead. I find that their digital content (iOS & YT) is quite good.
I also watch "The Smoking Tire" short driving reviews even though I can't stand the personality of the presenter.

CH will probably continue to put out the occasional, very well executed supercar review and/or join television production like the new amazon show or a new fifth gear or top gear or whatever. None of my business anyway.

I couldn't give a flying fk whether he or his dad is a nice guy or not. I personally think he is a massive bellend with his overuse of the Shmee thing. It is cringe worthy. Anyways, I'm out before I categorise you all as bellends wink

Thus me saying you were being a bit harsh. If something like the overuse of a term makes you cringe, that's no reason to call the guy a 'bellend' in public!

And yet he is twice as popular as CH, regardless of what the dinosaurs on this thread think. He also makes considerably more content, at considerably lower cost and presumably makes considerably more money from it. I suspect that this is the OP's point.
But in many cases the 'content' is actually pretty poor quality IMO.

I'm not knocking him though. He's found a very good market and is doing well. I'm sure there aren't many people in their 20s who could call Porsche and get given the keys to a new GT3RS for a few days.

The 'quantity' requirement for these new breed of Youtubers is evident in the stuff he produces. A lot of it seems to just be a re hash of previous stuff or him just taking about the cars spec again or retweets of other peoples supercar pics. It's almost like there is a law you have to tweet / FB / Youtube X number of times a week and it doesn't really matter what the content is.

Harris's stuff is in a different league quality wise with professional standard film production.
I think there is a law that you have to post something daily. There is so much competition for views you have to keep throwing your card in on top to get peoples attention. Short attention spans these days and if you don't post for a week you're forgotten by many. Its the same on Instagram where you have people just posting pictures of them posing or posing with some advertisers product. But behind the scenes its a right ball ache for some, especially the girls, many hours spent doing make up and re-doing poses over and over until you get the "right" one. All because people want entertaining now, not later.

Yeah, not really my thing but no need to insult him, I try to imagine, when on a forum that one day I may bump into that person, or just try and treat the forum in a similar manner but it seems its a bit like being inside a car and it is easy to feel isolated and safe, personally I dont want to be at CPOP or something and get jumped by Schmee and some other double hard, sweater wearing, well spoken chaps and get beaten/kicked to death with Lamborghini Brochures, Quality Brogues and massive wrist watches, or even worse someone saying that actually, what I said was really hurtful.

Good luck to him, I would rather be making videos about Supercars than sat here coaxing a SQL Server to run a badly written query I am not allowed to change, CROSS JOINS FFS !

I very much doubt Schmee or his band of merry men would do anything to you.
While not quite as strong I can't at all relate with him because he has this air of entitlement that follows him like a bad smell.
Can't stand his content.

Chris' Videos are much more packed with quality have an air of class about them and makes him far more respectable as a car journalist (in my opinion of course). Chris has mentioned it many times himself before that the main quality to journalism is whether you can write and not how you perform in front of a camera.

To compare Chris to Schmee or the other car-related vloggers doesn't make much sense as one produces high quality short form or long form pieces of automotive jounalism/film whereas the others seem to be simple vloggers who happen to own a nice car (which usually seem to be a boring supercar and hang around london far too much).
Chris expresses his opinions on things plenty via social media without having to try and leech some money from a bit of non-content by making a video from it and I imagine he feels he would like to keep his main channel professional and presentable for this reason.

Not to mention when comparing Schmee to Chris in terms of subscribers don't forget that Schmee has been around for years before Chris made his recent personal channel as he was always attached to the /Drive Channel until they went subscription based.

I Have personally never been interested in 90% of the Car content on Youtube with the only things to Grab my attention being /Drive, Chris Harris, Matt Farah's Smoking Tire Channel and Mighty Car Mods all of which tend to create much more fulfilling videos.

At the end of the day if Chris felt he was struggling for cash he would quickly change his formula to maximise his income but evidently he is happy with his current situation

BadobessionMotorsport Project Binky is my current favourite.

I think Schmees stuff is more for younger car enthusiasts really, my sixteen year old does seem to like chrome wrapped Supercars on Forza, but does seem to be getting the bug for other stuff, trouble is, he has mates whose parents have Mclarens, 911 Turbos, Bentleys, Lambos etc so lives more of a "Supercar lifestyle" than I ever will.

Oh bks, I said I was out till you mentioned that! Just trying to work out why one of my DB servers has its CPU pegged to 100% at the mo!

To be fair to Shmee he probably now thinks I am a massive . Which I am. Fair is fair! And I thought bellend was being nice!
