Chris Harris picked for Top Gear
Discussion
I'll give it a try but that line up just sounds awful to me.
I've never liked anything Evans has done.
Davo is nice enough just isn't energetic or enthusiastic enough for me.
Sabine - not really interested, but she can drive
And someone who seems to have many fanbois but I've never really got.

I've got a great idea............. Let's all watch it and then make our minds up if it's any good........Who's in?
Nah, Cant stand Chris Evans. I'd watch the other 3 though. Quite like Coulthard, he's intelligent if a bit dull. Sabine has an interesting personality, and haven't watched any of harris, so I have yet to form an opinion. So they've gone from 3 ordinary car enthusiasts + 1 non-speaking racing driver to 1 ordinary car enthusiast + 3 egotistical racing drivers. Expect a lot (too much?) of showing off.
Also much better news for the German car industry, rather than our own.
Still at least Harris will have to actually test the cars on camera before he gives his verdict.

If it's true, Chris Harris is potentially a good choice. They need journalists with some actual enthusiasm for and knowledge of cars if the show is to have any integrity.
David Coulthard, on the other hand, is a right bore. Will be interesting to see how he squares presenting Top Gear with his "County Roads: Don't Risk It" road safety campaign role.

Good for him! I was suspecting something like this. This also concludes the other Chris Harris topic.
I will say that the format has the potential to be extremely cringeworthy if they try a scripted 1:1 copy of the old Top Gear because IMO it wouldn't suit the personalities and rapport of the new presenters. Too early to tell but that's my feeling.
Harris and Schmitz always did their best work on their own. Coulthard also hosted some car review content for Red Bull with other F1/Rally drivers that was fairly awkward too.

I think its a good selection,
I like Chris Evans, always have done, I can see how he may grate on some but I think he is an intelligent, funny and genuine guy who is a proper petrolhead.
David Coulthard, wonder if he is the new test driver, he is uk F1 royalty so thats good enough for me.
Sabine Schmidt, her sections on old TG were always fun, she has an infections smile and laugh and a sense of humour, thinks she will make a great addition and her driving/petrolhead credentials are not in doubt one iota.
And Harris, one of our own, we now have a Pistonheader on the mothership, he can present, knows his cars and can drive.
I think this all bodes well, cant believe anyone is moaning, old TG is keeping going on Amazon and it seems we have a new one with a selection of petrolheads, I know some will be disappointed it wasn't Len Goodman, Miranda Hart, Sue Perkins and Joey Essex but I think the BBC have put together a credible team when it was looking like it was going to be like the Bake Off with cars.
I bet the naysayers do watch it, just so they have something to complain about, they wont be able to help themselves.
Anyway, I thought Chris Harris was on Fifth Gear now ?

I'm looking forward to it, some good people who know about cars, chris evans is a nice chap who is very personable (I like his breakfast show on BBC radio 2). DC sitting all relaxed in a supercar, wearing a suit and expensive shoes just drifting around while looking like he could fall asleep because it's so damn fking easy for him will be enjoyable to watch (given I'll never attain those heights of skill)
Hopefully less of the "in jokes" and school boy behaviour, hopefully more of the good production and more of the good articles / films. In the latter seasons TG became juvenile and made me cringe.

It's going to be to much like Fifth Gear, which to most of the general public is too factual/serious,and doesn't have the light entertainment factor of Clarkson etc.I predict initial high viewing figures and then a big tailing off because this will be a bloke programme and not family entertainment.
