Bump (of a very old Thread which needs a title update).

Deutschland 89 (S3) starts this evening on More4 @ 21:00.

I really enjoyed 83, but gave up on 86.
Is there anything I need to know before I start 89?
biggrin

We recently watched the "Same Sky", which is another East/West Cold War drama.

Same for me - never finished '86, probably ought to; but I think the new one's stand-alone-ish.

Agree on Same Skies, annoyingly there's no sign of a Season 2.

We're just catching up on 86. Like others we dropped it part way through (2 episodes in I think). Fingers crossed for 89 being at least on a par.

For lovers of Berlin-based drama, Counterpart is fantastic (and in English).

If you like a bit of techno, Beat isn't too bad either.

Cheers, hadn't come across either of those - looks like Beat is on Prime (although I'm not a fan of techno/dance at all).

Another good Berlin-based drama is Berlin Station.

Couple of years old now, it's an American version of Spooks about a CIA spy station in Berlin. Much better than Spooks though!

A good start. Severe lack of heavy smoking, though! hehe

All 3 soundtracks are on Spotify I am pleased to report. I loved '86 but '83 was superior without a doubt. Didn't realizs it was released yesterday, on it like a car bonnet.

Deeply confusing if you haven't seen earlier ones.

Interesting bit of history though.

Loved 83, up to 7 on 86, different but still great. Not enough Trabants in 86 though.

86 is by far the weakest season.
Loved 83, 86 a bit ‘meh’, 89 was great

I'd watched 83 on free-to-air telly here and 86 and 89 got picked up by a local streaming company, which my wife got recently for a month or two. So 86 and 89 it is! I got through 83 in three nights and am about three episodes into 89. I'd had a long enough time between 83 and 86 to forget most of what went on and I found 86 an easy and interesting watch. 89 is a bit more of a demanding thing - every story thread seems to be rather more full-on!
