Brilliant so far-Plenty of Oldtimers in the background too. I did notice in episode 3 they left Germany in a W123, and arrived in Belgium in a W116 S-Class though...
I thought the Citroen BX at the place he was first shown the Walkman was too new for '83. It looked more like a mid to late 80's version. Wife told me to shut up though so I guess it is insignificant. Edited by tiffx19 on Monday 18th January 03:21

Much more importantly there was an NSU RO-80 when they parked up in Brussels.
Decent episode last night, although that doberman seemed particularly relaxed about our chap sneaking about the furniture shop!

I'm loving it.
I've just watched episode 5 on my Fire TV stick.
The fact that it's subtitled doesn't bother me at all.
If you are enjoying it then I strongly recommend watching the movie 'The Lives of Others'. An absolutely terrific film about the Stasi in 80's East Germany. It was released in 2006 but isn't too well know as its a German language film.
Goodbye lenin! is another film from the time, but quite lightheartedI've just watched episode 5 on my Fire TV stick.

This is increasingly far fetched, but still pretty enjoyable.
My brain is switched off before watching now though, I'm not expecting to have to think (or try and reconcile all the incredible events) - I'm beginning to wonder if it won't all end up with him waking from a dream...
Either that or Gene Hunt will turn up in his Quattro!

That being said, it's more or less irrelevant and didn't detract from the story line one bit. The giving blood in the car was a tad implausible though, just down to the time it'd take.

There's also been too many accidental cock ups.
First the swapping of hotel rooms after the bug got placed in the lamp and now the bug is under the secretary's desk not Mayer's.
I think that makes it feel quite realistic, as things like that happen all the time in real life.First the swapping of hotel rooms after the bug got placed in the lamp and now the bug is under the secretary's desk not Mayer's.

Nor me, but the 1st generation had orange indicators, clear ones weren't fitted until 1986 according to Wikipedia, which kind of tallies with my memories of the time. That and the chap on here who has one in Reader's Cars. The one in last night's show had clear indicators.

Agree; it's entertaining period nonsense though - I missed the Merc swap as well. That being said, it's more or less irrelevant and didn't detract from the story line one bit. The giving blood in the car was a tad implausible though, just down to the time it'd take.
Re the blood (nice CX) there's no way the handler would've carried on smoking in the car either.

I'm enjoying it, loving the soundtrack too. I watched it last Sunday at 11pm on catch-up, with the end credits being Bowie's 'Heroes'. I declared to my wife that we must see the great man if he ever tours again, woke up next day at 7am to read the sad news of his passing.
Also the theme music is, presumably in a nod to Bowie, called 'Major Tom' by Peter Schilling. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Hs2AQwDgA
I've had The Lives of Others on DVD for a while but not got round to watching it yet, must give it a whirl.

Ah, cock, I've just gone and ordered it off of that Amazon on the basis of this thread. Could have had a lender off your good self. Oh well, I'm sure it's a keeper. Seen 'Goodbye Lenin'? That's a cracker.nickwilcock said:
The perplexed expression on the Stasi officer's face when confronted by a 3½" floppy disk was excellent - as was the comment he made!
"What am I supposed to do with it? Stick it up my ar$e?"
That whole part with the floppy disks was great "What am I supposed to do with it? Stick it up my ar$e?"
It was a 5 1/4" disk though. For 1983, their old computer would have been an 8" drive. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floppy_disk
