Been in discussions with the Production company, and got sent a 30 odd page list of regulations and stuff.

Filming begins in March, so if you can build one before then you can get on. Just a shame it's all filmed north of the border.
They seem to want a detailed spec and photos of the robot in the application, and decisions on who's in are going to be made in the next few weeks. Basically going to limit it to people who've already got a robot built and ready to go.

I always thought Hypnodisc was a brilliant concept (and Tombstone since someone posted the links on here), but never liked the way it would suddenly shoot off sideways at great speed whenever the disc made contact. Led me to wonder whether twin contra-rotating discs wouldn't have been a better idea.

Separate discs like 13 Black or 2 discs contra rotating on the same axis?

I was thinking of two on the same axis rotating in opposite directions like the Rolls-Royce Griffon pictured.

Just had the 6th wars final on Challenge, Razer v Tornado when Tornado had the framework around it that was bigger than the pit and big enough to keep Razer away from the body. Pissed me off at the time, still pisses me off hehe

What was the one made by the chaps from Cambridge Uni? I remember an over the shoulder control frame, carbon and titanium, with the weapon being some hand forged Japanese dagger thing.

Wiped the floor with quite a few robots, then came a cropper with one of the much cheaper, simpler and better planned/piloted robots comprising a dad and his kids...

I was early teens when those series were shown - I remember at the time thinking they were complete tossers. Reading that link, I now see that there was a strong element of that, but also the producers playing silly buggers...

fk knows how they came up with a 'valuation' of a quarter mill though!

Razor was always the fking daddy though. Stunning bit of kit.

Storm2 and Tornado would be good to see have in it again, especially Storm2

I wonder with Storm2 in particular whether the armour had improved to the point where spinning weapons weren't much use?

Their latest robot Warhead, albeit a good few years old now, is another fine bit of kit from them. Going for the Hypnodisc type design.

I'm looking forward to it coming back. I was only young when it first started. Wheny mother heard about it coming back on the radio she rang me all excited saying 'remember we used to have to rush eating our Chinese on a Friday to watch it'. I liked on the early series when there was an assault course there were some really good amatuer attempts that were little more than Rc cars with biscuit tins. I remember there was even an Rc monster truck inside a big ball.

Psychosprout. Intriguing concept but proved impossible to control properly.

I don't know Angela, but getting Dara must be quite a coup?
I think he will be very good at it.

Me neither with Angela Scanlon, but Dara presenting it does back up the 'more science' bit of the new show.

Personally I'm very pleased with the presenting choices, Dara is a very clever and very funny guy while being a big geek so that should be good.

No idea who Angela Scanlon is but a quick google reveals she's a rather tasty redhead so no complaints there.

Glad Jonathan Pearce is back, can't stand him commentating on anything else but his cheesey OTT style always suited robot wars down to the ground.

Happy days!

Definitely defendable, battlebots had a fight between tombstone and witch doctor and despite some spectacular looking hits, very little damage to the front plough on witch doctor. In the end tombstone actually broke its own blade in half and only really won out because the other one went upside down and couldn't right itself.
