Spinners vs spinners will always be a lot of damage at the end of the show. So next week is the last heat, and they've put Apollo and Carbide together. Those two in being split to different heats would have been good so they both had a chance of getting to the final. It's one or the other now. Ah well.

What i don't understand is why they don't bring enough spare parts?

If you've already spent thousands building the thing, and you know things like motors/speed controllers etc will burn out, why not spend a bit on plenty of spares so it actually works as intended?

Suspect this is another side effect of lack of development/testing time - no idea how robust certain components are, and having (multiple) spare for every single component in the robot can easily add many more thousands to the cost.

Better robots this week. But they're just not robust enough.... they clearly haven't been given the time to get things done properly. Big spinners like you see on battle bots take absolute hammerings and they come right back for more. So robust.
Plenty of the spinners in Battlebots have issues as well. Tombstone was lucky to make it through its semi-final last year after it broke its bar in its fight with Witch Doctor but managed to upend its opponent which lacked a self righter. ICE Wave has also lost its drive motor for its blade on several occasions.

I think the extra time allowed in the pits, plus much larger budgets masks the problems during the fights.
That is true but it's more towards being the exception than the rule. The likes of tombstone survive many fights fully working.

I remember watching the one where the bar broke. When you see the machine next to someone that bar is actually pretty big! Must have been a hell of a hit to shear something like that clean in half! (Though there was probably a small material fault as it looked like a clean fracture).

As i said though, i just don't think the UK teams have been given the time to do things justice.

I'm sure that I've read somewhere that Tombstone costs around $1000 a fight to operate. If that is the case it certainly isn't going through multiple fights unscathed.

You just don't see the behind the scenes work with the battlebots guys-in part because it's done between shows.

It's probably no coincidence that the best spinner in the new robot wars (carbide) is also run by the same team running a very similar robot in battlebots (cobalt).

In general I think they are looking better than the last series-what they probably need is a 'live tour' or something similar where they get to battle-test everything before the next series. I know there are probably other robot-combat events but a recurring theme seems to be that nowhere else is able to contain a heavyweight spinner.

I think they aren't comparable at the moment to be fair to RW. The sheer money and time allowed in Battlebots makes it a different show. They basically want a good fight each time, so robots go in ready. Whereas RW is on a budget so must be done to TV schedule and encourages bodging to get a lot of them through.

I don't actually mind the house robots, but often think they are misused. They should be a hazard in the corner only and be there to get the competitors back in the middle fighting again. The button to release them on your opponent spoils the competitive spirit somewhat. I've never liked the pit as a weapon either. It should just be there in the last 30 seconds of a fight or after it has finished for the house robots to do their thing for TV.

I don't think there should be anything in the arena except the fighting robots themselves. Anything else is a stupid gimmick and totally unnecessary.

Yes and no, if all the competing robots are forced to have some kind of "kinetic weapon" then yes I'd agree with you. However, without the arena hazards and house robots you would have nothing for a heavily armoured pushbot or to some degree a flipper to use to disable the opponent and score points.

Rubbish haha. Shame apollo and carbide weren't in different heats really. They're both pretty great.

That Carbide certainly causes some damage.

That first round for Apollo was pure cannon fodder. Two teams who hadn't even driven their robots. Half expecting a team to show up who only just met when they turned up on the day next lol.

Good show tonight though. Carbide is brilliant, Apollo is great and a i love the design of crackers and smash. High quality stuff.

You need a vertical (titanium?) rubber mounted vertical bar on the rear of your machine to present to carbide's blade otherwise it just smashes your machine me to pieces.

Did crackers and smash horizontal spinner ever spin up?

Chewed to shreds by Carbide in the group battle.
