You need a vertical (titanium?) rubber mounted vertical bar on the rear of your machine to present to carbide's blade otherwise it just smashes your machine me to pieces.

Did crackers and smash horizontal spinner ever spin up?
They said both weapons worked when the gave up the match to carbide, perhaps they're just not powerful enough to do much obvious? It is only a half weight machine.

Pussied out, should have gone for the annihilation. The beavers or cubs in the audience were looking like they were out for blood!

I would think so, but I also think they are broken beyond repair and might offer Thor their place.

That first round for Apollo was pure cannon fodder. Two teams who hadn't even driven their robots. Half expecting a team to show up who only just met when they turned up on the day next lol.

Good show tonight though. Carbide is brilliant, Apollo is great and a i love the design of crackers and smash. High quality stuff.
I never understand why people turn up not having tried their robot.

You need an area about the size of a tennis court, perfectly flat, with bulletproof screens around it. I know I have one of those in my back garden but not everyone does.

Surely you can practice at you local park/ tennis court/ car park without bodywork or weapons to check the main systems work

I was in tears of laughter when that thing got smacked across the arena so hard part of the wall fell off laugh
I think Dara OB does a good job especially with his dry wit as does the commentator, the woman is ok too, but would look better in a pair of 6" heels and a party dress like the American one tongue out
I suggested a while back that in order to test a robot you would have to drive it with weapon flailing into a house wall, someones memorable response was a pic of a house collapsing biggrin

Maybe it's Dara who would look better in 6" heels and a party dress? Or maybe a jaunty little Megabus hat? Cos, you know, that's obviously important.

Did I hear Carbide say they designed the motor from scratch? Impressive.

Find the Apollo tram a bit too cock although they were magnanimous in defeat.

Remember Chaos 2 team saying they practiced by flipping washing machines.

Maybe I'm missing the point but can understand why someone would go to the effort of building something like Nightshade, never a chance of surviving more than one fight, I guess variety is the spice of life.

I agree and it wouldn't be for me, but consider that almost every race you see has someone trundling around at the back like they're on a Sunday drive.

It did look pretty well engineered TBH, just a fatally flawed concept. I was impressed that the arm things were still working after being tossed around like that. I reckon that with a better draw of initial round it might have gotten through the first battle.

I think often the lack of testing is also due to them running out of time. They're building on a very short timescale.

(spoilers for the first group battle):

Must be honest, I was hoping the schoolkids got further than a few seconds in. Very innovative weapons design and if memory serves me right, this was the first pure next generation (in human lifespans) team we've had yet. Great idea and I hope we see more school projects in future.
They will be back!

My daughter is one of Team Expulsion. It would be fair to say they learnt a lot from their first outing. Unfortunately, when the robot was put in the arena there was a piece of debris underneath so it got stuck due to the low ground clearance. Then their battery was destroyed by a spinner so the robot was totally disabled. The spinner was at just the right height to get in between the 2 layers of armour so a bit unlucky there.

Expulsion 2 is in development and should get a run in the next series.

Den of Geek have done a very fair review, including commenting on the fact that the grudge between Apollo and Carbide looks very real.

Seeing as most of the other spinner robots do as much damage to themselves if they make a solid attack, why does Carbide seem to not do this?

Looks like it is much better designed for a start.

There's too many slow-mo's when they show the fights. Also the house robots ruin the action and have affected some of the outcomes.

I think Carbide is pretty much the only decent robot I have seen this series which is capable of putting in more than one impressive performance.
