Well, some say, he could not act his way out of a paper bag, that he looks like they shaved a chimp and stuck him in a suit, Remember when Daniel Craig was announced as James Bond? ..... look how sit he turned out to be!

I think it'll end in carnage but I'm all turned around on Le Blanc.
Did anyone hear him and Evans on the radio this morning?
Le Blanc came across as a very cool guy, knowledgeable, obviously car mad and just a general dude looking forward to doing something different and fun in line with his interests. He also said "we have big shoes to fill" as recognised that what went before was really rather good.
However, I found Evans to be utterly excruciating. He's clearly the boss but the way in which he was talking with Le Blanc, in my opinion at least, showed that perhaps he isn't as chuffed about this as he claims. Le Blanc is a superstar, everyone knows him the world over. Assuming Le Blanc is a regular fixture on the show rather than just making cameos for the 'adventures' then he'll dominate Evans just through his fame.
This all said I do think that the format will be seriously changing - I hope so at least. I wonder if it'll be more of a traditional 'magazine' programme with Evans as the week in / week out studio presenter with items contributed by Monkey, Schmidt, possibly DC etc. Then big set pieces with the whole cast doing roadtrips etc by way of homage to old TG.
Either way I see loads of very positive stuff but with the one massive potential problem of Evans' ego.

It all depends how it's filmed. Evans is usually the boss with sycophants all sitting around laughing at his jokes. Perhaps LeBlanc and others will do separate features with less of them all being in the studio together like the old top gear had.
After all, it's a new show with different characters, it's not just going to be old top gear with different presenters.
I think its a good shout of what I've read MLB is big into cars so between him and Chris Harris it should work out pretty good, but I do have a niggling thought about Chris Evans I like him but I hope he doesn't behave the same as on TFI Friday where he just comes over as a hyperactive tit.
If anything comes out of the New Top Gear it will be Chris Harris getting his deserved break on TV I've a feeling the guy will shine.

Yes, never understood the presenters can't drive complaint. Surely that just means they are like the vast majority of people that buy cars they review, and most people don't care how good a car is around a track.
Simply because on the very rare occasion when they give an objective review, you would expect them to be reasonably competent behind the wheel.Edited by MarshPhantom on Friday 5th February 09:54
e.g. 99.9999999% of powerslide shots in TG are out of cockpit to mask the fact that it's not the presenters driving.
George Lazenby was the worst bod ever, he was st
Yep, worst Bond ever

We'll see what happens, at the end of the day, but added to the fact I watch virtually nothing on the BBC , I find it hard to have a positive outlook

I don't have a problem with Americans but tell me the last successful american TV presenter on British TV. It's a different world. If you'd seen the US version of TG you'd know. It's utter garbage.
Unfortunately , I think you are right. The only succesful North American presenters I can think of were all/are on the radio. Alistsair Cooke etc. The fact that htis bloke's claim to fame was that he was in some soap nonsense does not excite. Saw it on his feed, expect an announcement today.
Do you mean James Martin? I repeat, Chris Martin is not on social media. It's on the BBC website now too, something about Chris Martin having a segment where he sings and reviews cars which conform to his highly publicised advocacy of anti-corporate, pro-Fair Trade principles.

No it's definitely Chris Martin from coldplay. It was actually on his missus's twitter.

I think el stovey is trying to make a humorous point, but I'll be damned if I know what it is.Anyhow, interesting that The Telegraph have confirmed Chris Harris as a presenter off the back of one photo. He might 'just' be a consultant, for all we know.
Did anyone hear the Radio 2 interview?
They couldn't have got a more likable, knowledgeable, willing and available guy, in my opinion.
I know people mention Guy Martin an awful lot, but he wasn't willing/able to do it, so that's a moot point. That said, if they are shaking up the format it would be nice to see him as an occassional guest on road trips etc.

Why are people getting so angry about what format a new program should take?
TG in it's old form is dead. They want to do something completely different because anything else will just be unfavourably compared to what wen before it.
It's ridiculous hearing people going on about it as if it were some sort of National treasure that can't be tampered with or altered. Also, it was fking st for the last few series anyway so roll on a new format!

I think you are putting your own spin on that. There's nothing wrong with a bit of 'industry observation'.Plenty of people are fans of 'Top Gear' and have invested their time in it, so have a sense of ownership. There's nothing wrong with that, and it is exactly the sort of relationship the producers of a good show want to cultivate with their audience.
It's also a double-edged sword though, because when change is enforced (as it has been for TG) the pressure is there not to alienate the fans.
There's no two ways about it though - even if you read the comments section on the official BBC TG page on the announcement of MLeB as presented it is clear that most fans worldwide acknowledge that Clarkson, May and Hammond were Top Gear and most of that fan base will follow them.
Evans is a fan of the old new Top Gear too, that is clear. He is not trying to re-invent the format (which is obvious from the quotes coming out) but he's not going to be able to re-create it either, hence the increasingly desperate moves to establish an audience for the new show before it even starts.
I keep seeing people in here use 'car person' as the metric for a good choice as presenter. That role could be filled by several thousand members of PH and probably not one of them would be any good on TV. Just in the same way that the majority of ex footballers are st at being pundits. The metric should be are they a car person who is also capable of original thought and telling a story about cars that people want to see and watch?

I don't see anybody getting angry, you seem to have made that up :PTG in it's old form is dead. They want to do something completely different because anything else will just be unfavourably compared to what wen before it.

Everybody is just discussing it freely. Did you just want to rant?
Evans really is the odd one out the more I think about it. Too shouty and annoying. Really looking forward to MLB though. I watched his SIARPC episode last night and I think he'll be great.
