I was thinking WTF is going on and then I got the joke and really enjoyed it. The graveyard scene with Mulder and 'Guy Man' explaining his behaviour was hilarious (including the Scully seduction, woo-hoo!).

Awwwww come on, they always had the odd tongue in cheek episode and I thought that was right up there in terms of those episodes.

That said I loved Murray in Flight of the Conchords so it was good to see him again.

Exactly. Great episode, I'm really enjoying the series so far biggrin

I turned off this weeks' episode 20 minutes from the end and deleted. Not good.

I thought I'd have a check on IMDB after watching it and it's amusing to see the pure 10* joy and geek love for it and all of the subtle and not so subtle references to the old show and utter 1* hate biggrin.

Certainly a divisive episode. I'm in the 10* camp (pun intended).

We thought it was hilarious. I love Rhys Darby and you could tell everyone was having fun filming it. They weren't taking it seriously and nor should the viewer. Just a bit of fun!

Nice review of the episode in the Telegraph for those who want to see how many in jokes they spotted/missed...

Spoiler alert obviously

I thought it was excellent. Haven't really got into the new series until last night.

I think this new series is awful. I'm not talking about the plot, storylines etc, they've always been silly yet fun.

For me the direction, the pacing is absolutely terrible and makes it borderline unwatchable. Is it just me? They jump from scene to scene, no pace to the show, just 'scatty'.

Dreadful shame as I love the X-Files of old, and Duchovney and Anderson.

Brilliant episode last night. Lots of laughs and as someone else said it looked like they were having fun with it. A great hour of entertainment, especially the creature having issues with being human biggrin

Another vote for it here, Mrs Blackpuddin and I were exchanging quizzical looks to start with but these soon changed to smiles and then outright LOLs. Good on them for mixing it up a bit.

Episode 3 is the best so far. Is it really 20 something years old? Eeks! Ms. Anderson is looking better than ever.. 😵 shame its only 6 episodes though, supposed to be a big cliff hanger I hear? Only programme I have not sought to view via alternative means and watch weekly. Really enjoying it thus far. Hope they don't keep us waiting too long for another series, I used to detest the long hiatus.

Utter crap. I hope they got paid a lot of money for this. So far removed from the original series it could be Blake's 7.

Loved it! Loved Rhys Darby in flight of the choncords, perhaps too over-Darby'd but had an old school x-files feel to it. It seems the new series is so marmite, fingers crossed for the rest of the series.

Okay Ep 3 I enjoyed, just watched it.

Felt like a parody of the old show, with Mulders ringtone etc. Very silly, very enjoyable. The first two were taking thenselves too seriously.

There were quite a lot of lighthearted comedy / "monster of the week" episodes in the original run.

Not as bad as this but you may well be right. It was like watching a very poor Grimm which I think is one of the best series of its ilk in a long time.

Watched it on 5+24 last night and it was like rolling the clock back 20 years - totally bizarre and bloody funny like some of the ones they did way back.

Can you please explain why you think I would watch the Twilight films because I thought that this particular X-Files episode wasn't my cup of tea?

Would I be in your Kool-Aid-Gang if I wrote that I enjoyed it?

ETA - No answer!
