I think they look like an interesting group & I really hope that people will give them a chance before writing them off as crap.

I'm also hoping that they'll still be using guest 'human' presenters from the public as CE said they would...

Isn't that why Rory Reid is there ? He was on the shortlist from the "public" auditions.

And looking on the brightside, after a long days filming when the inevitable fight breaks out it should be much more fun to watch. I hear Sabine has a nasty right hook......... ;-)

All very well, but we've seen his efforts as a TV presenter before.

Unless they're just planning to use his wig for comic relief by getting him to review all the open cars?

I'd not call him 'Joe Public', he's a motoring journalist. I thought the idea was to have someone that wasn't a 'pro'

I feel like seven cooks is probably going to be too many. You could take a few people out of that lineup and lose nothing. And when Evans has finishing harping on about how amazing he is the others will only get about 2 minutes in front of the camera...

Are you really thinking they are all going to be on screen at the same time, all sat on the sofas?

I think they're going to be doing their own segments - old style TG

Well thats all the boxes ticked by the souless cyphers to whom diversity and breadth means a measure of brown and white and lady people.

Really don't give it much hope myself, looks as bad as we feared.

Also

I have to say it

looks like the Beeb have been box ticking. I mean we have a black guy, a woman, a ginger, a monkey, a white guy american, a potato and a robot (perhaps). They're really only a LGBT and a wheel chair user from a full house.
The thought crossed my mind too. Yet somehow this group, replacing three middle aged white men, was questioned as containing only one woman in the group on the Wright Stuff this morning. He also managed to blame Thatcher for marijuana causing psychosis though...

Presumably it'll be a bit more of a magazine show with small numbers of presenters on different articles, and possibly even not all of them on every week. Quite a good idea to move away form the format of the old show IMO as otherwise people will be forever comparing them.
Not heard of Reid (unsurprisingly) and never seen any of Harris's stuff, but presumably Sabine will be doing a lot of the fast tests, Jordan will probably cover some motor racing and presumably knows his stuff technically, and Evans and LeBlanc will be the amateur car nuts. I can see it working.

They could have tried to sort out a picture where it didn't look like Evans had pissed himself.

Also a key qualification seems to be 'are you shorter than Chris Evans?'.
He's been 'shopped to look the tallest of the group (pretty sure MLeB is taller than him in reality).

Oh, and did anyone else spot the inappropriateness of Evans' announcement of Eddie Jordan as 'the man with more connections than Vodafone'?

I predict a bigger budget version of "Fifth Gear"

A light entertainment car show too superficial for petrol heads and too specialist for a mass audience.
Looking that way, isn't it!

Intrigued by what people actually wanted from new Top Gear, would anything or anyone have been 'right'?

I think people forget that the Clarkson/May/Hammond still have a show on the way as well.

Some interesting appointments, which surely mean the show is moving away from staged entertainment back to more of a proper car show? I know the show needs to evolve and distance itself from the previous incarnation but I do hope it retains some humour!

Is EJ also doing the F1 for channel 4 with Coulthard?

The lack of Evans would certainly help. The reasons have been discussed to death in his titular thread on the subject, but to summarise he's had a string of TV failures where what seemed like a good idea to him at the time turned out not to be.

This is shaping up to be no different.

Evans is 10cm taller than Joey according to Wikipedia.

hehe well it wouldn't be PH if there wasn't any racist, sexist drivel. God forbid the Lady person can actually drive and the 'brown' guys are actually really creative, talented presenters...

Rory Reid's vids are superb - if he's as fun & cheeky on TG, he'll be ace. Thumbs up for him smile
