Why does nobody ever buy a house?

There was a recent 'Escape to the the country' where the couple put an offer in that had been accepted - might have been yesterdays.

Most of the time when the stuff looks good value, it means you need to squint at the bit in the closing titles where they tell you how long ago it was filmed. It's not been so bad recently, but I remember talking to a guy in work about one that had been on the night before in the Lake District, but had been filmed about three years earlier.

thing is with the Flory stuff it is still (on the face of things!) amazingly good value - however then you have to add in HOA fees, property taxes, tax on income from rental, 3rd party maintenance fees (you can't just pop on over to clean up after your guests have departed and prepare for the next load), utility fees (and IIRC there the costs are high due to the need for AC), insurance... and so on and so on the whole short-term rental thing could be more trouble than it's worth. Long term (3 or 4 months at a time) though could be more viable.

We'd be tempted to look out there as a holiday home and a base for exploring the rest of Florry. Yes it is a LOT more than getting hotel rooms - but (in theory) if you decide you want to sell then you should be better off than having spent 10 years worth of hotel charges (add into that the kids then have the potential of cheapish holidays as well as friends and other family).

I vaguely recall one from around there, showing them the pool, when a local alligator turned up and they had to get someone out to remove it. I can't quite remember if it was APITS or something else. Value for money did seem very impressive. And I think since the various foreign property value "adjustments", most of the new programmes have made a point of stating how much cheaper better value the stuff they're showing is now, just so it's clearly a new one. Mind, if they had anything about them, they'd do a "revisited" programme to show people who've been on the show and bought something - maybe there aren't enough of them yet.

My wife watches this religiously but can't keep track of what's a repeat or a new series plus her geography is somewhat 'questionable' so I get a shout to come and look at a massive property in Herefordshire for £150k before I tell her that it was on the market in 2012 and prices may have changed and I cannot get into London for a 5am shift from near Wales.

My SIL's house was on of those shows a while ago, this was filmed just prior to them buying it. The "buyers" were very dismissive and wouldn't even look around the house, slated the road noise and the garden too.

I suspect the reason these people dont buy is because the reason they end up on these shows is either a) they just want to be on tv or b) their requirements are way out of kilter with their budget and so they have utterly no hope of being able to find what they want.

Sure? Or are they just saying they've put an offer in and we never hear anymore as to whether there is any actual transaction?

If you listen right at the end there's usually an update on any prospective purchase . I've heard many times that the purchase would be completed in the next couple of weeks. I have A place in the sun on series link

Have you tried therapy?

All these low budget shows are mostly contrived. I reside in a very luvvie part of London and have several friends who have been asked to fill in on shows like this and pretend to be 'punters' and plenty just apply to go on these types of shows just to be on tv. They just don't have the budget to make them honestly. It isn't just house programs but almost any program that utilises 'members of the public'.
