Enjoy this series and Fuzz is great on it, but why do they keep insisting on showing us they completely restore cars in 2 weeks?. Does anybody actually believe a full blown restoration can be done in that time when Westgate Classics own web site stats its takes anything from 500 to 1400 hours to complete such a job. This is something all these type of program's seem to do and its really annoying.
Suppose they are trying to appeal to a wider audience and add a bit of jeopardy into the mix but I would prefer it they didn't.
I think those are man hours, so more people less time. 500 hours can be done by 4 people in 3 weeks and 1400 by 9-10 over 3 weeks. Plus the outsourced specialist businesses working at the the same time. They might not always have 3 week deadlines but I bet it's not far off considering some of the excuses they have to get cars away from owners.

It is the Lintilla effect. Much simpler to, perhaps, break the arm of one of them.

When I thought the quality of the work couldn't get any better, they surpass themselves tonight with that 2002. After that soda blast, hands up who thought the end result would look that good.

What craftsmanship!

Turned out beautiful, though I wasn't very impressed with Fuzz's welding when he fitted the final piece into the rear window surround! smile

Frankly I thought Tim would be off looking for another Shell like they did with a Zepher (SP?) from a few years ago, but it would have criminal to take say a tii shell and 'turbo' it.

Anyone care to guess what a freshly restored 2002 Turbo is worth these days? I don't want to sound crass because he seemed a lovely old chap and a proper petrol head - 2002 turbo with a cage to take the kids on holiday! But I think that car wasn't long from being scrap and it's worth a fortune now - hope he enjoys it and finds a garage for it!

At the time of writing, there is one for sale on PistonHeads in a garage for a few quid shy of £70k! Nice.... smile

Why does wker Tim always try and get a discount at the suppliers/experts. Asking the turbo bloke to rebuild it for free, what's all that about. Trying to justify himself?

It's just part of the 'show' like Mike Brewers 'old out yer ahhhnd stuff. He doesn't actually just walk in and negotiate money off, just like he didn't really escape security to track down Roger Moore (sorry for ruining it for you)

Enjoying the series this year, the BMW was fantastic!

I can't find this on 'all 4'?
Do they not allow you watch it on demand?

I like it too, but find Tims attempts at humour pathetic, really not needed at all. I wonder if it's his idea or scripted?

I always record it just so that I can skip the Tim bits. They ruin what would otherwise be the best car show on TV.

Same here, FFWD through the whole turbo overhaul bit, it's a great show and I love watching but can't stand Tim's stupid bits.

Oh bugger, did they switch it over, or was it always there and channel 4 buys from them when it's out of date.?

I've only seen series 1 ( I'm in the. US so can only watch 'catch up programmed, can't stand the tv here so Internet based tv is my only source!)

I don't actually dislike Tim, i just don't know why they feel they need to try and add cringeworthy 'humour' into the scenes where he is out and about getting stuff sorted. Still love the show though. smile

I agree too that's why I hope it's scripted as he actually seems to be knowledgeable!

Absolutely. The humour is not funny, the gags are cringe making and it just goes to MASSIVELY detract from the program. I have seen Tim in many other things and he comes across really well. For gods sake, just drop the crap from this program.

In the last series, I warmed to most of the "back stories", as I believe they are called, apart from the Sierra Cosworth chap who just struck me as bone idle.
Maybe I'm just a heartless but I really couldn't give a st about the tales of family woe. Everyone gets cancer and dies in the end, they're not special. I'm just watching for the cars.
That's very harsh and bitter sounding..

Have you any idea how desperately sad and depressing it is to have to watch your pride and joy slowly deteriorate and there's nothing you can do to stop it? All those great memories and drives, just fading away, ..the torture these people must endure must be dreadful, and you can't just sell it as its part of the family, an entity with a soul of it own.

You've probably never owned a car for long enough for it to have that effect on you, and if you haven't, you won't appreciate the sense of relief and uplift these people feel when they see their car restored, those tears are real.. A jackpot lottery win couldn't beat that.

Classic cars are time machines, a tangible link to better days and happy memories with family and friends, that's why we like them and why they have such a profound effect upon us.
