As someone who has no control over the radio at work, apart from registering numerous complaints about the stultifyingly poor quality of content, I occasionally feel, once Radio 2 has been swapped for Pirate FM, a little more charitable towards "Wrighty". Then they switch back. The man is a colossal, corpulent, asinine berk. A man with no percievable talent whatsoever. I like the fact that Radio2 goes back on because I enjoy getting wound up by serious jockin'. It makes my cigarette breaks more vengeful. He is, however, a man entirely bereft of originality, charisma and purpose.

What I am enjoying even more is the fact I am holiday at the moment, basking in the mercifully radio free environment of my bed. I have had to come looking for a Steve Wright thread to vent my irritation on. smile

As an aside, anyone who employs such a cripplingly dull and sycophantic man as Tim Smith deserves whatever ire we can muster.

wow, a lot of really nasty people on here. SW is middle of the road. If you don't like him/it, please do not force yourself to listen. Christ, get a life.
Hi Steve. Don't worry, it's nothing personal. Like any form of media it's a matter of taste and a lot of people presumably still tune-in otherwise you'd be off the air. It's just that some of us here are expressing that we don't understand your appeal.
Love the show.

I've just read that article/attack on him and his lifestyle, and much as his radio shows may be rubbish I actually find that really sad. He obviously has several mental problems and once off air, if that article is true, has nothing else in his life. Maybe the reason he has been kept on by the BBC for so long is that they have recognised that on air is the only time he is happy and comfortable in life, and perhaps if they do let him go they are worried about what might happen to him. frown
Obviously?

He is obviously overweight but I wouldn't go any further than that.

I think it's a pretty open secret that the only reason he's still there is over concern he'd top himself if they sacked him.

I've heard it mentioned dozens of times over the years.

This is, with respect, complete bks

The BBC don't renew the contract for the presenter of the prime drivetime slot on the country's most popular radio station based on the fact that he might go and suck on his Range Rovers exhaust pipe if he doesn't get it

Expensive though if that's the only reason for keeping him on. For £400k+ a year I'd be wondering how much concern I really felt...

I would imagine 8 million listeners with year-on-year increases are more of a reason.

Radio 2, and Steve Wright, are doing very well in terms of listeners at the moment and unless that changes I doubt they will rock the boat for any unenforced reasons.

If he didn't and he read this thread it would probably be a good start for him.

Does anyone know why he goes to the US so much? He's mentioned his trips there quite a lot over the years.

His dimness knows no bounds. Listening to him yesterday during the incredibly enthralling factoid segment the question was how many litres can the liver process in a day. He hummed and harred and can up with well its infinite isn't it. The poser of the question said try again so he said 40 gallons.

Funny that, we've had various tradesmen in over the last 12 months and as soon as 12pm came, Radio 2 went off and then as soon as Jeremy Vine and Steve Wright had finished, it went back on again in time for Simon Mayonnaise.

That's pretty much what I do. The only problem is trying to fill in the 1 hour gap between Mark Radcliffe finishing on 6Music at 4.00 and Simon Mayo starting at 5.00. I'm not a great fan of Steve Lamacq's student shoe-gazing stuff.

Any alternative suggestions welcomed.

Maybe a proportion of the country are easily pleased or just retarded ?

Those who ring in and call themselves "Olivers Dad" or some such st, then the ones that do the three word thing "Blueberries been picked" or something, usually something worthy or some minor acheivement they want to crow about, tell the other retards how "on trend" they are
