Reminded me a bit of Out of Town with Jack Hargreaves, and that's not a bad thing
Yes it did have a similar atmosphere. I can hear the 'feem toon' to Out of Town now.

I agree with others, I enjoyed but not sure why.

5 minutes in I thought it was going to be dull but it found it's pace and I settled in.

I chanced upon it so was quite disappointed when it finished after half an hour. fk me I've become sad. What happened to party me.

It was slow and probably a little boring, but I enjoyed it none the less. I think James May is an excellent presenter.

Look for the 'Brit Lab' channel on YouTube - he presents a lot of stuff there and is very good, especially when they show the outtakes where he seemingly goes off on an ad-libbing tangent.

Found it really therapeutic. Probably doesn't appeal to all but for those of us that like messing about in sheds it's great.

Toolboxes obviously props though, way too clean and tidy!

My Father has a Suffolk lawnmower tucked away at the back of a shed, think i might dig it out and give it a service.

I quite fancy attempting a striped lawn for the summer.

It's just occurred to me that James May has the same beard as Rolf Harris. yikes

Enjoyed that, he's passionate without being over the top about it. I think most of us can relate to him fairly easily, we all love taking things apart and trying to put them back together.

Blimey, just happened by a fluke to catch another one just now, a telephone.

I would have thought it would be a once a week thing.

I can't believe James did not know to expand the piston with hot water to enable the pin to slide in easily, not much oil about on assembly either.

Still enjoyed the programme though.

Watched this about the telephone, much as I like the concept that was enough to make me sleepy.

I only just realised when I saw this post that you lot were talking about another episode! I have to get it from iPlayer I guess.

I really wish you could download the full 10 hour unedited version.

Just watched the first 2 episodes on iplayer, really enjoyable. As others have said James May is a very good presenter, you get the impression you could listen to him talking about any subject.

Only thing I would have liked would have been maybe a better explanation of how some of the components actually work, with maybe some animationed illustrations.

That would be some download!

Missed the first one but caught the telephone one this evening. He really needs a pipe and a well worn hat for the full Jack Hargreaves experience. smile

No. No animations. Then it wouldn't be a man in a shed with a few crew and a camera. Keep it down to the basics.

I am guessing that you didn't see the top gear episode where they built a Caterham? James spent most of the time polishing his tools, sorting them carefully back into place and moaning about Jeremy's use of a hammer!

I enjoyed the programme a lot and May is definitely a likeable chap but his dry assembly of the components was driving me barmy. No grease or oil on any of the fasteners. Good luck getting those apart later. Perhaps he has a 80 gallon drum of PlusGas in that shed.

I saw this advertised
Its a run of programmes over consecutive nights
FWIW BBC 4 always repeats later on in the evenng so you can set the timer
TBH I simply love the programme I like James May very much I think he is one of the fw presenters that make things interesting his cars of the people was a great watch.
Very happy that despite the TG fallout he is still making programmes for the beeb.
And he is doing a Fender Strat in one of the shows
a full 10/10 from me

Found it rather boring. Just watching James screw a few of the bits together. No real explanation of how it actually works.
So i now know a 50's telephone has lots of parts and was very well engineered.
