My views

Chris Evans - fking awful. Annoying shouty delivery. Ginger. Looks funny - his head is too big for body

Matt LB - much better than expected. Enjoyed his pieces when CE wasn't involved

Cinematography - bloody beautiful as to be expected

Format - same old format although they came out to say it would be before hand so no big surprises there

Viper - looks awesome - enjoyed some of it that didn't have CE

Viper vs Vette - really enjoyed that piece - looked like a lot of fun and something I'd enjoy having a go at. Sabine was enjoyable to watch - have enjoyed her company in the past and seems good fun

Journey to Blackpool - boring

Star in a whatever - enjoyed the new track. Thought Ramsey was good - enjoyed him. Jesse was a waste of space.

Nomad - loved the film, beautiful cinematography, enjoyed MLB's delivery - surprisingly good and talking to camera whilst driving.

Jeep vs Series 1 on the beach - bit of a waste of time really - filler?

Race to the top of the mountain - not a bad piece really

News - was surprised this was missing given how long the show has been off air for

Conclusion - not a bad first go - would be better without Chris I think. Will watch again.

Loved Matt, he hit the nail right away but too early (for me) to make judgement on Chris, he is a master presenter who I've followed since Big Breakfast, he has to 'bed in' for a few episodes yet.
Better than I thought though, and I'm sure it will get better.
rofl

Funnily enough, I've done my best to avoid him for the same period.

Did that say Harris has been banished to "online only" BBC3?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/exxhn3/live/c29rbp - just starting now.
Wtf..? Didn't know about this. Just watching it now, Harris in the Nomad.
This is more like how it should be, seems more natural. Even Chris (Harris) isn't putting on an act. And News!

I think what we're seeing is that many things we thought were quirks of the previous show or presenter are actually scripted, just like the rest was and they have carried over into the script of the new show. Right down to individual words, sentence structure and intonation. I now feel like I should question how well I knew the personalities of the previous lot as I'm seeing those same personalities now, just projected by different people. So it feels a bit like new people doing an impression of the old people. So far I think they've missed an opportunity to really innovate the show and I think they should have changed the script style at the same time as the presenters. Then we'd feel we were seeing and getting to know new people.

Also Chris definitely needs to shout less.

Also, Matt Leblanc looks like he might actually be an ok steerer.
Jeremy Clarkson and Andy Wilman wrote the script for Top Gear. They created and produced the show. They came up with the different ideas. This isn't the same producers and script writers giving different presenters the same words and format, this is different people simply copying what went before. I guess to a degree they have to keep the same format as the show is sold overseas and couldn't be radically changed without forcing unwanted change on other countries' versions of Top Gear, but there must have been room to bring in some stamp of individuality for the new presenters. That's what we were promised and what I was hoping to be the case.

It's not like it really has to compete with The Grand Tour for viewers because we can all watch both.

Le Blanc in the Ariel was pretty good.
Went on too long.
Likely to pad out everything else.
Le Blanc on the TV meant there was less Evans. Which is good.

Top gear is nothing without Clarkson. Clarkson IS Top Gear!

Did the BBC not learn anything the first time he left?

...although Rory Reid seems to be hiding his knowledge for no real gain.

It feels very much like they made some token changes to avoid accusations of having cloned the old show entirely. The Mini rallycross car, the "two stars rather than one", the very similar challenge format but with a UK-vs-USA angle tacked on.

In all honestly I was never going to particularly like Chris Evans, always found his popularity baffling as he either bores or irritates me most of the time. Matt and Sabine were way, way more entertaining.

Currently watching Extra Gear, maybe 10 mins in. Rory and Chris Harris actually work pretty well. And I say that as someone who hated Harris' writing in Evo.

I'd like them to quietly sideline Evans (never happen, I know), get Rory and Harris alongside Matt and Sabine on the main show and get some more chracterful guests on than Ramsay and that young American lad who I'd never previously heard of and whose name now escapes me.

yes it's MUCH better than the main show. There also seems to be genuine chemistry between Rory and Chris.

I believe Richard Porter, of Sniff Petrol infamy, was a major script contributor to the Hammond/May/Clarkson version of TG.

Rory Reid is a natural, easy-going presenter, needs elevating to the main show.

Except Top Gear existed as a nerdy car show before Clarkson, he turned it into a blokey entertainment show with cars which the new format is continuing. Clarkson's boorish behaviour was the reason for him going and he will have a new show soon on another channel.

The old school staged everything as to be expected but the humour and sense of passion caried right into your living room , this didnt or doesnt .

Chris is proberbly a nice bloke but hes lift music in a world full of rock bands , he created pantomine of our top gear with the tirade of crap such as `thanks to the lake district ` .... What ? does he not know the cars are the main stars you bounce off not the other way around ?

Matt is okay i guess but once again hes not mr personnality

Sabine is lovely as always but where is she ? shes one of the only redeaming features of the new line up and shes not around

The formats always been critiqed as stages and stale but man it looks refreshing of old compared to the new version . The atom drove into the back of truck to end the feature ...... thats an ending ? is that really the very best they can come up with ?

Not going to three and think my days of top gear are now over for shame . I always loved having out kid come round and setting myself up with a fresh coffee and the volume on 11 every week . Those days are now gone

2/10
