Guess it's just too difficult for you to admit I was correct. biggrin

Here's the rub though - it's annoying for those who had the foresight to predict what a horse's hunt Evans would make of the show to think of the millions pissed up the wall on producing his 'vision' of the show, the millions more he was paid for his failure and the millions still that will be lost due to the latest batch of the franchise being unsaleable abroad.

Yeah, stuff and nonsense rolleyes

It transpired that new TG sold better overseas than old TG. It was just the UK press that doomed Evans to failure before the program went to air.

Chris Evans doomed Chris Evans to failure.

yes It seems all you need is a big slice of arrogance and an enormous ego to be considered for the job.

I don't know why they need to hire anyone else, just use the remaining team with MLB as the front man and let the rest develop over time like the old team did. MLB, Harris and Reid should work quite well given a bit of free choice on challenges and time to get to know each other.

Sounds good to me.

Evans is like Jonathan Woss. He's just about bearable when he's on his own, but put him with someone else and he starts showing off like hyperactive teenager on acid.

Nice rewriting of history there.

If it is James Martin, I hope they did a screen test this time.

And please, hire some writers.

I read the article saying new TG was selling to more territories. According to the BBC it is now available in 130 territories.

Old Top Gear was (according to BBC) - selling to 217 territories.

hmmm.

Well a recent article I saw said that this series of TG has been a bigger cash cow than the old series.
Have you got a link? If its true then have kept that very quiet. US figures are massively down, but I've not seen data from other countries.

Also bear in mind this series had a bigger budget, but only managed 6 shows rather than the normal 8. Straight off the bat they will only get 75% of the potential earnings.

Cash is the key to the future of the show, not how many CH fanboys inhabit PH smile
He's probably referring to this http://www.theguardian.com/media/2016/jul/12/chris...
It says it sold to more countries. I doubt it made more money though. 6 shows instead of 8 will mean me 25% less ad revenue. Factor in the falling viewing figures and the next season might be a difficult sell.

This season was trading on a name, and they fked it up. They need some real writers and some new idea's to turn it around. CE leaving is a good start, but it needs more.
TBF the contracts would have been agreed based on the success of the previous series of top gear, on the assumption the bbc wouldn't sabotage it.

Viewing figures of that run and what the next series sells for are more indicative.

OTOH he isn't a hyperactive child who bounces around screaming "look at meeeee! look how entertaining I am. I am!" all the time.

No - he's a TV chef, Evans is a DJ. The BBC haven't learned much clearly.

Whilst genuinely hoping they give Martin the bums rush on this, I suppose we are all judging him on his rather unpleasant attitude on the Mille Miglia documentary, but to be fair he was under pressure in an unfamiliar environment that was almost certainly costing him a lot of personal expense and rapidly going to hell in a handbasket.

And he comes across reasonably in his cheffy stuff, but then is he just another with a decent Tzv personal?

Significant point is above, he's a chef with a bit of TV experience, Clarkson is a car journalist and a writer, some might not like his style, but the basic ability is there with the drive to put the effort in to do it as well as he can. No doubt the accusations of JC fan boy will follow, not really as frankly he can be a bit of a tit, but one cannot ignore someone with ability to do a particular job well.

The problem is they need writers and, I suspect, they believe also need a star / name who is British. Going to struggle with that.

If the BBC want to continue making a programme with the 'Top Gear' name, they need to completely change the format and possibly also aim it at a different audience.
