Seems a bit OTT from the BBC if true.
Depends how desperate the BBC are . . . and they are desperate with a potential £50m hole in their budget next year.

I suspect it's just the PR machine building up for the new show. Their PR company will be feeding out lots of articles to the corporate media over the coming weeks that 'journalists' will simply republish as their own. I think we can expect lots of guff to promote the show via incredulous articles designed to feed cromagnon man's rage needs. biggrin

I'm sure there will be paid for content rolling out through the DM soon.

There's actually a word for that; "churnalism".

I'm looking forward to TGT. Even if it's rubbish I will enjoy it more than the latest 'Top Gear'.

Yeah, and that superficial thinking clearly worked last time round.

So, Top Gear is currently in the tank because the the BBC put their eggs in the Chris Evans basket and he behaved exactly to type and wandered off the project because, well just because that is what he does. Anyone doing their due diligence on the man would have known to expect that, but I guess their thinking was he would produce something spectacular out of the bag and the praise foisted upon it would boost his ego enough for him to continue the project.

Instead (again to type) as 'showrunner' he cobbled together re-heated elements from past shows that he'd had success with (shows that were very much of their place and time) with fanboi recreations of CHD Top Gear set-pieces. His 'vision' was that he would be seen around the world next to one of the most well-known sit-com actors of the turn of the millenium, leading a show that is watched and held in affection by millions, and the established audience would take him to their heart.

The only person signed on a contract beyond one series was Evans. Harris and Reid have heard nothing regarding what comes next and LeBlanc is 'weighing up his options'. Reid was interviewed recently and stated that his and the other presenters' roles were to be bit-parts around the new chummy-team of Evans and LeBlanc. Seems that you can't manufacture that chemistry!

So, nothing is happening - no pre-production, no advanced writing. Nothing. The BBC show is in stasis and the BBC themselves are in stunned intransigence as to what to do next.

That's what they thought they were doing this time around. The old saying applies - if the medicine isn't working then a bigger does is not always the answer.

I read the article saying new TG was selling to more territories. According to the BBC it is now available in 130 territories. Old Top Gear was (according to BBC) - selling to 217 territories.
hmmm.
Rumours are that the BBC have, in response to test screenings abroad, re-edited the latest series into a smaller package, placing LeBlanc more prominently and cutting down to the minimum possible the screen time of Evans in the hope to achieve some semblence of decent viewing figures when aired, even going so far as to replace or remove Evans' voiceovers in some of the films.

Probably also indicative that they are aware that as Evans will play no future part in the show they should play down his involvement, looking at damage limitation going forward.

That sounds odd

Series 22 was symlcast to loads of countries, and the rest for it within 24 hours. Certainly the US got the show within hours so I would expect the series to have already been shown in all the countries it's was bought by.

US figures pretty much mirrored ours in their decline.

It's just r11co and his 'frothing at the mouth' conjecture over anything to do with CE. He's incapable of rational thought when he's mentioned.

About 25% of the international audience was involved with the simulcast. Syndication also means that repeat broadcasts within certain territories are on different channels and to wider audiences (kind of the opposite of what we have in the UK where the series debuts on 'Dave' 3-6 months after BBC premiere). This is where they are struggling to sell it on.

Still following me around like a bad smell I see, Ade. Never anything original to say but always obsessively reacting emptily to my posts. Perhaps you'd like a signed photo biggrin.

Funny though how my 'irrational thought' seems to have matched reality. You on the other hand appear like a Chris Evans shill.

James Martin might be enough to push me over the edge, I can't stand him, any time I've seen him on camera without a script to read he shows himself to be a prick, not the mention the sort of prick who likes to buzz cyclists in his car, TG doesn't need that.
He's such a supercilious individual. I really hope he doesn't get the gig. I'd like to see Jenson Button as a co-presenter

So you're saying that if the BBC want to continue making a programme that has made them a lot of money they need to make a completely different programme? Ummmm... ok.

I rather suspect that what they actually need to do is to work out how to keep the golden goose healthy. They need to nurse it back to health, not pull its feathers off and try to stick fur on it instead.

Watched a repeat today of the CX-5/Tigun caravan review again today.

Yes it's all staged & scripted and yes Jeremy deliberately turned the steering so the CX-5s auto brake system wouldn't cut in and he'd hit James VW but bugger me it still had me laughing like a drain.

I guess that makes me a bad person.

'Dave's viewership must be pretty good, they've got a lot of original content now (I use the term 'original' slightly loosely)

yes
Series 23 debuted on Dave last night to little fanfare, billed on the EPG as the first of Chris Evans' "blink and you'll miss it stint as presenter".

Virtually no promotion for the new series. Instead the push was behind Jay Leno's Garage which also started this weekend.
