Wasn't it May who missed the first series?
Ah, yes, I think you may be right.*not his actual name, the whole thing was so dull I can't actually recall it
** still not his actual name
Anyone remember that ste programme on the late, lamented Men and Motors channel that had Hammond as a motorbike journo, before he hit the "heights" of TG? Can't remember what it was called... might have been Two Wheels Better or something terrible like that... but I do remember him being a detestable jumped-up little tool even back then

Leblanc is more boring than the proverbial paint drying, none of the others have any real charisma, but more importantly - none of them have any on air chemistry whatsoever.
It's a painful tedious death of a tired format, inextricably tied to its former stars.
I could not agree more. It's a painful tedious death of a tired format, inextricably tied to its former stars.
I've never understood the love for Harris either. I guess some get all star struck because he was on here once.
I only watched the first few episodes of the last series before I gave up on it.

IIRC there used to be a fat bloke called Jason Something* who would get a five-minute spot to bore people bleedin stupid by droning on about what cars represented the best VFM at the time, and which made a good investment and other fascinating stuff like that. It was presumably dropped because a) it was st and b) be had the charisma of someone who'd actually been dead for quite some time. Clarkson clearly hated him and spent the whole spot glaring at him and tapping his foot impatiently. When James May took over from Mr Something** he had to do the same rigmarole for a few shows... droning on about good car investements... until the producers realised no-one, but no-one actually gave a single fk

Theblancs an actor, he could say some cool funny witty things... .... . . If the scriptwriter doesnt forget to put them inIt's a painful tedious death of a tired format, inextricably tied to its former stars.
And there you have the problem in a nutshell, a bunch of pretenders led by a islingtonite bbc commitee trying to reacreate the popularity of a show they cant guage. You want that in your life like a teen needs fashion advice from the parents.
They needed to start afresh before and still do, but I bet itll be another lazy pastiche. A little part of me is glad the bbc lawyers have put so many restrictions on what CMH can say/do/think - creative people often produce their best work under pressure or with restrictions so it'll be unteresting to see what they do.

Here's part fo the very first episode from 2002 (yesw not old '70s TG)
WOW Look how amazing it wasn't..
I'm cautiously optimistic for the new series (start date?) MLB, RR and CH cold work very well.

The rest of that episode are on YT.
Anyway point was that the first couple series of 02ownards TG were dogst. Yet no one wants to give the second generation TG a look in for not being flawless from the off.
Very much like the E30 M3 was a winner and everyone hated the E36 M3 just because it wasn't the E30. When in fact it was still a damn good car, but different to the Original.
I think the new series got better as it went along, but I just couldn't get on with CE. Just a really irritating presenter IMO. My favourite part of the series was MLB in the Rolls-Royce Dawn, but even then there were some irritating aspects, but overall a well done piece in my opinion.
The Grand Tour starts in about 2 months, looking forward to seeing how that pans out.

Well I for one am more happy with a line up consisting of MLB, RR and CH. I said a few months ago that using those three as the main lineup would be better IMO. I didn't like the first new series due to Evans, but I will give it another go with them and see how they get on. I liked the Rory Reid jag piece.
They also need to chill and develop the arrogance which made Top Gear. I can't find the clip on YouTube but before the head was over the parapet they did a car-manufacturers-names-on-things piece with a "pork sword" and "wizards sleeve". Back then no-one cared.
TG needs to stop caring if people will like them if they are to have people like them.

I think that boat sailed with the last three. TG needs to plow a new furrow for itself built around the personalities of the current presenters.Hmmm, having just said that, considering MLB's reputation, I think 'plowing a furrow' was a bad choice of words .
