Top Gear 2016 Official TV show thread *contains spoilers*
Discussion
Must admit to chortling when I saw the tweets including the words FACTS all in capital letters. It's like one of those shout teenage PH posts when someone tries to shut down a discussion.
Suggest he should stop trying so hard, concentrate on the content, and the banter side of it will come. Screech shouting won't hack it, that's your voice, OK so be it, just chill a bit.

I thought it was common knowledge to ignore press and not say a word, the more you SHOUT the more desperate you look.
You only have to reflect on the recent super injunction and how silly it made the person look.....we all know who you are!
The only problem with the last series of Top Gear was that too many episodes had been planned, so the presenters were getting rather weary in the later episodes. Jeremy Clarkson was also having some very harrowing personal life events at the time, which was probably why he exploded at Tymon on that infamous occasion.
There are some very clever elements in the Peugeot segment, most of which was filmed in West Oxfordshire, where the traditional Peugeot-ist isn't all that common. Except for lycra louts on Peugeot bicycles, that is.
I've just listened to about 60 sec of the wretched Evans on BBC Radio 2 - simply dire. Shouting and yelling in the same way that he did when he ruined Top Gear last Sunday.
He really must be taken off Top Gear before the programme implodes....

I think people are being far too negative about it all the points are to some degree right, it needs more "content", the presenters need to loosen up and find there own way etc.
But it is still a massive improvememnt on TG 2014 and 2015!
Just hoping it all means that Clarkson gets his ego back under control and the 3 amigos produce a decent show which is more than just a vehicle for them to just see what they can get away with.
Can you list the things that were a massive improvement? But it is still a massive improvememnt on TG 2014 and 2015!

I made the mistake of taking yesterday off work. So, as the monsoon rain lashed against the windows, I thought I'd enjoy a cuppa or 2 and indulge in some channel surfing. Needless to say, I alighted on Dave and a Top Gear rerun. It was the one where Clarkson test drove the Jaguar XK convertible in the Yorkshire Dales, and was a reminder of just how good old-new-Top Gear could be, throwing into sharp relief just how desperately try-hard the one on Sunday was.
Well, I watched Extra Gear on the recommendation of this thread and was... disappointed.
Blokey banter didn't hide the fact there was less car content than the main show. A magazine piece on Sabine's crib, a comedian who drove the first BMW he could find that would protect his kid and the same non-news segment that never worked on the old TG. Reid and Harris come across as in thrall to any big name that comes their way, so I'm not expecting any sharp criticism or insight there. The race round the circuit in the Nomad added nothing to MLB's review ('Ohlins!', 'Ohlins!', 'Hodor!').
It's not clear how they've managed to make the Hangar so echoey either. Did someone slap the sound man?
Early days still, and it's good they've got the room in Extra to explore the format a bit, but they're really going to have to work hard to make it fizz.

that was a great show and I would have taken the Jag over the Aston and bought another one with the spare cash.98elise said:

Just a word of caution, the second episode was filmed before the first one aired so this Sundays is going to be just the same as the last. The interesting one will be the 3rd to see if they have taken on board any of the complaints about the shouty wooden style of the new line-up.
Hopefully they will all grow into the roles and a more relaxed approach will sharpen up the banter to a point where it moves from 'barely watchable' to 'enjoyable'.

We had the continuation of the entertainment show but with more proper "nerdy" car information (via extra). I thought the "news" type had moved further back in the right direction.
It seemed a lot more upbeat than before.
I like the wider spread of presenters, it gives a wider base of knowledge / experience, not seen them all yet and have know doubt some I will like more than others.
The SIARPC was always really just a filler and I never took it seriously although enjoyed it when guests took is seriously. Despite the name not really fitting I quite like the idea of the new format - even if surface is no longer consistent
The BBC / new team had a difficult (impossible) task to try and keep the existing fans happy yet create something new and fresh. I was always a fan of CHM but did feel the show (partly format / partly presenters) was tired. Also I feel too many people seem to begrudge CE taking over (it wasn't his fault). JC did that on his own and I suspect he was already thinking he wanted out.
So on balance I do feel that it is a good starting point given time it can develop as the previous team / show did.
Sorry still think the Peugeot thing was rubbish, yes maybe a few clever bits (as many of their pieces did) but far too long and too much dumbness!

Fair enough - whereas I thought it was refreshingly pared back. I suspect the echo was due to the total lack of soft squidgy sound-absorbing bodies. I also assumed that the lack of content was a bit more about getting to know the presenters the TV audience needed introducing to and that as the series goes on, we'll get more content and less bio stuff. Promising, based on the nerdy teaser about rear bracing on whatever car it was. I do agree on the Nomad piece, but we know Harris can deliver, so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt there. I would definitely watch Extra Gear again. I would watch TG again, but fast forward the awkward bits. Sums it up for me.Blokey banter didn't hide the fact there was less car content than the main show. ETA - re Richard Porter, I find his tweets far funnier that the SP site, which has been increasingly contrived for some time. In fact, the more off the cuff the comments, the better they are for me - so the small ads tend to be some of the best site content, but live-tweeting about the GP is often amusing, even without the squash-hog.

My theory is that they miked up the audience more than before to get lots of 'reaction' - Evans was working them hard on the main show - but it means you hear a lot more of the booming space that the hangar is.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
