I would guess that that's pretty much a captive audience,, don't think they tune in to listen to Chris Evans per se.
IMHO, it is not a captive audience.

It will be interesting to see the viewing figures - does anyone know what the last series of TG got for the opening show? I would guess around 5 million.

According to wiki, the first series of the modern era averaged 3.4m viewers, and the last series averaged 6.49m viewers, with series 9 (2007) peaking at an average of 7.45m viewers. Therefore 'success' will depend upon how you want to measure it smile

I'd expect the first episode to pull in decent numbers, but it's how much the audience drops off that will be revealing.

It will be the same as the old stuff, but with different characters.

Its the worldwide sales that will decide its success. Its a big budget show so needs to make big money otherwise its budgets will be cut.

^^ Pretty sure the numbers don't go down when Sara Cox is doing the show.
Down one at least when she's on I can't stand her.

Of course it's not. There are hundreds of other radio stations to choose from. 10m people are choosing to listen to Chris Evans because they like him.

I'll give it a chance for sure. I hate Chris Evans and dislike Eddie Jordan, I like Chris Harris, Sabine Schmitz while Matt LeBlanc was a good guest on old TG, not sure who Rory Reid is though.

We'll see how it goes really, based on the Jalopnik write-up we won't see Harris, Reid or Jordan but a lot of Evans and LeBlanc. But they are the two leads, so it was bound to happen.

I wonder what will happen if it does fail, will Evans get the cut, or will guys like Harris & Reid be chopped instead?

I'll watch the Harris in the Vulcan bit on Youtube...

M2 vs RS3 - Really? Do we even need to see/hear that to know the result? One is RWD - Switch off the traction control, drive like Clarkson and it's 'the best car eva'!

I'm not sure Evans is Marmite really, but he's certainly brown stuff you don't want on your blanket!

£100 quid bet there will be a shot of Matt LeBlanc in a car and the theme tune to 'Friends' comes on the stereo.
He looks at the radio
looks at the camera
and scene hold
cut.

That's the level of 'comedy' I think they will be reaching for...

So pretty much like the Clarkson-era Top Gear then.

No, they don't , they put on R2 because that's what they've always done.

And on their first big all-new season-opening show, they have....

Gordon Ramsey.

FFS.
What's the issues with that?

He's a big petrolhead, has a nice collection of cars... Seems an ok choice.

Fair enough if you just think he's a tt.

I will reserve judgement until the first episode has aired. I like Chris Evans, always have done even in his early days, just not sure this will go well but hope so. Nobody has seen any episodes yet so why don't we hang fire on the mud slinging until it has been seen.

I heard on the radio this morning they have changed tact for SIARPC, apparently they will now set a lap time on a rally circuit?
