Another thing I've noticed is Evans is never counter-steering on the onboard shots, despite how it cuts in from the external ones. I suspect he's a bit ham-fisted behind the wheel somebody else does that stuff.
I thought it was just me that had noticed that!
Not to mention the wearing a silly lumberjack hat so that the exterior shots of "ME!" powersliding it can be done by someone who can drive, he looks very unsure with that side of things from inside the vehicle. Having said that I'm sure the same happened with CMH too.
CMH could certainly hold a powerslide, but thats just a party trick, its not a sign of a great driver. Its especially true when you have an airfield to play with, and multiple chances to try it. CE hasn't had years of practice to get good at the same party trick.

JC has been fairly open about it not always being the presenter in the car. They may need to do production stuff like look at takes, amend scripts etc during the shooting. If the camera crew and the car are sitting about they will get another driver to do exterior shots, or extra takes.

Sames goes for the "races". They can't do all the exterior shots on the race as they would have to keep stopping, waiting for the crew to set up for the next shot etc. anything that needs a roadside shot will be done on the way back. Its unlikely the presenters will be around for that.

I suspect we a seeing less of CE behind the wheel than we did of CMH, but its not a huge deal.

I enjoyed most of last night's episode. I'd say as much of it as the 'old' TG, which always had a stupid or boring bit in every episode too.

The cars were varied - nice to see a classic on there. Clarkson hated anything that wasn't new so they rarely got a look-in.
Filming is good. Scenery was nice. The challenge had historical interest. Rally cross bit wasn't good but is no worse than the old SIARPC

Plus all of the tribute/homage stuff they did.

I watched the Jennifer Saunders clip posted a bit earlier, nice bit of TV that and she was clearly loving it in her own shy, but quite competitive way.

Exactly. Another one springs to mind is when they got a bunch of old hot hatches (with the golf MK2, Nova and Fiesta)....

Meh from me.
Zenos was ugly and told us nothing and CE was almost on the verge of a VBH.
Harris has obviously been told to be more ecitable and lerss measured and it really doesn't suit him.
The Roller thing was good with Matt on his own but CE and the whole judging thing was terribly weak.

Does Jennifer Saunders realise she has lifted the tuk-tuk scene from Inspector Clouseua or this some form of satirical "tribute"? Even to part of it coming away and being chucked out of the window. Surely it can't be that brazen?

Meh wasn't that good im afraid.

CE piece with that zenos was dull and the car looks awful not sure what market there is for the car.
MLB with the dawn was actually pretty good and starting to like his presenting style.
Mini part with the celebs dull.
Chris harris looked ridiculous and didn't come across well in the bmw/audi test.
Rory reid not bad liked the article bit lacking in info but was ok.
The end crap.

Anyone said what the viewing ratings were bet lower than last weeks.

I know what you mean about the looks, but I assure you they're much better looking in the flesh.

Previous low figures have been attributed to people watching other stuff, then watching it on catch up. The overall figure will tell, however I think its going to stabilise around this level. Its lost a lot of viewers but gained some new ones.

The real test for its viability will be sale abroad. It justifies its big budget from that, and the number of viewers here doesn't alter the revenue one bit, other than possibly being an indicator of its popularity.

Skipped everything apart from the Harris and Reid sections on iPlayer, not the best piece from either. Still better than anything Evans has done so far, but that isn't saying a lot.

Agree with that, but putting on a dab of oppo is just one aspect. They don't need to be autocross champions or racing drivers, but with CMH you had the sense they had enough understanding of a car to convey how it felt to drive. They - Clarkson in particular - could talk about balance, poise, ride; whether a car was nervous or docile and you accepted it was probably a fair assessment.

Evans looks clumsy behind the wheel. The way he throws a car about suggest he doesn't really understand it himself, so I wouldn't trust his opinion.

As for him not having the experience yet - that's a massive casting error then. You don't give the top job in motoring journalism to somebody who isn't experienced enough to do it. The biggest car show on the planet shouldn't be a proving ground.

I'm sure that Evans was hired because he is a "face" and he is known to the general public as "that bloke who has all those cars and does that Carfest thing" which the BBC probably figured was experience enough.

Yawn - another poor episode of the new Top Gear.
Chris Harris was the worst presenter this time with his usual boring "how much rubber can I burn off the rear wheels pony trick". Evans was next and seems to be getting even more shouty. Overall, Matt Le Blanc seems the best of this mediocre bunch.

People forget that Clarkson and May had 20yrs experience as print journalists and plenty of tv experience (both old and new style Top Gear) before they became Household Names and TG became a Worldwide phenomenon.

Hammond was less experienced but they got away with him as a comedy straight man.

Didn't make it to the end again before switching off. LeBlanc is the cream rising to the top as the only one who appears believable when he delivers his pieces - you can tell he is on the verge of tongue-in-cheek.

Harris was cringeworthy with the 'not an M2' thing - he does not deliver a script convincingly. His whole piece looked and sounded like it was straight from Fifth Gear.

Evans is just Evans. His 'sleb' slot I had already written off, and this coming-through-the-doors thing should be kept for Ant-n-Dec.

Rory is now starting to grate (as some predicted he would).

Don't know if I can bear another one.

I'm shocked to my very core at your review. It's come as such a surprise. How could this possibly have happened to such a level headed and unbiased person.

Mind the door on the way out.

Ok who left the door unlocked? Mr "Chris Evans shagged my hamster and I'll hate him forever, even if he gave me a kidney to save my life" has come back in.... What do you mean there's a window in the ladies loos.
