Does it look to anyone else like Harris will mostly just be online doing Extra Gear?

The Mail has basically the same story but with a bit of extra detail about Evans 'directing' the audience.

No idea how he thought he could manage a realtime runthrough.

Apparently he swore at the audience for not laughing at his jokes. According to the telegraph.

This has the potential to be better than the main show as it'll be very different from the TG format.

Seems squarely aimed at the folks who want more cars and less cocking about - sort of like Fifth Gear, but with a bigger budget. Has the potential to be dull as dishwater but here's hoping they can escape the ghost of Chris Goffey.

My dad who, whilst a petrolhead, really didn't/doesn't like Clarkson which meant he never watched the previous Top Gear, messaged me asking when the new series starts last week as he wants to watch it. I asked him if it was because of Evans (he's a big Radio 2 listener) and he said it was. Quite interesting I thought.
I'd have thought Evans would put off more people than Clarkson.

He's on his way towards 10m listeners on his breakfast show, so I don't think opinion on PH tells the whole story.
I would guess that that's pretty much a captive audience,, don't think they tune in to listen to Chris Evans per se.
Evans is doing well because the alternative on R1 is poor. He wasn't successful on the evening show, ratings down when Evans took over and up again when Mayo started.

I went to the filming, and saw that story. The way they reported it is nonsense, there was a bit of swearing but it was all good natured and no kids in the audience so no problem. Was a good day out. He did announce that they would have it all filmed in an hour, don't know how he thought that would ever happen, especially as they needed to film some ads and links afterwards. Interestingly they did some short ads ("catch the new top gear on Sunday" bits to camera) for the UK, BBC America (including some Indy 500 specific ones) and BBC Poland. Guessing they are pushing it heavily in the US now that they've got LeBlanc, and must be popular in Poland?

Format is very similar - I had thought that they would have dramatically changed it to make more of a break from the existing format, the way it is they are asking for direct comparisons with the previous show. Without giving away any spoilers, I thought LeBlancs test drive segment was very good, the 2-part "road trip" element (with both of them) was dull. Got a feeling the rumours about them not being the best of friends (no pun) could have some truth.

Managed to get myself stood right behind Evan's chair during the interview. I'm considering it my big break and expect the phone not to stop ringing once it airs.

Apparently BS anyway. It was a FB post by the Telegraph but commentators on the post who were there said differently.

From the sound of theings the whole "it'll be a new top gear" sounds like it has the entire structure of the old one. I mean are they going to bring back the 'Cool Wall'?!

The internet tells me that the "cool wall" is owned by the BBC, along with the Stig, Star in a stty car, and any other little things. So it maybe on new TG, apparently not on GT.

Single most informative post I've read about the new top gear since Evans was added to the show. Thank you.
