Before the show aired - "OMG this is like, going to be so terrible, I can't believe they picked <insert any name here>, I won't be watching".

After the first episode aired - "OMG that was like, so terrible, you won't catch me watching that again".

After the second episode airs - "OMG that was like, so terrible, I can't believe it was so bad again, I won't be watching next week".

After the the third episode airs - "OMG.." - And so on and so forth.

I didn't and won't watch it, I've made no secret of the fact I don't like CE.

Pretty sure I'm not a retard however I'm not sure where you sit in society with an attitude like that.....

If you've got nothing better to say than insult people who have an opinion I suggest you disappear under the rock you've just crawled from under.

A lot of criticism so I'll give the good points first:

Matt Le Blanc is actually quite good. Although some inevitable American humour, I really liked all his bits in hindsight. 'Here is Barry, with his... child's toy.' He wasn't trying to be Hammond or May that's for sure, he was just himself, and made it work.

New Rally Cross SIARPC idea was at least different.

Sabine - She was actually better than I expected, seemed genuine and had a couple of funny lines too, 'This handles poorly, like a Ferrari hehe'

Cinematography - good standard as before.

Extra Gear - Rory and Harris were fine, would be much better in the main show compared to Evans. They did the news section and did it well.

Bad things:

Chris Evans. fking hell, just st. Behaving like an idiot, shouting like a chav, whooping and cheering at every thing on the SIARPC bit for no reason, encouraging the audience to cheer like an 18-30s holiday rep, nothing he did was good or worked.

Audience piping. I know they did this before, but with an extra layer of audience piled in up high, it makes it even more obvious that they aren't laughing.

Chemistry - I don't think it's fair to criticise this so early, but clearly it's not there at the moment. I actually think it'll get better with the less high profile presenters rather than the top 2.

SIARPC guests - Why on earth Gordon Ramsey as the first guest? He interviewed poorly, and asking for the prompt to be moved closer just made them seem like amateurs. Jesse again poor poor choice. 'I sat in a Porsche once, but not sure what it was' FFS, why come on Top Gear then, who's this for?

I despised it at the start and thought it was all wrong, then realised it was just Evans. I'm not a great hater of his, but he is dire here, if he just shouted it would be harder to hate.

On the plus side, next week all the haters will be gone. Obviously. Yeah.

I chilled out after an exhausting weekend and enjoyed much of it.

CE is far too shouty for a Sunday night though. TFI Sunday is not going to work! Pipe down man you are not Brian Bessed!!! (Who happens to have a proper man shout)

MLB is someone I can watch. He has timing, self parody and knows his stuff. He's easy to watch. Once at ease with the audience he'll be great. Evans needs to stop shouting at him too.

SS is bonkers and can properly drive. Good entertainment.

I'll watch next week as I think I chuckled more at this (MLB & SS) than the last few TG which had gone off.

Good for you, but people here have expressed an opinion - a small number hate Evans but to categorise anybody who doesn't like it as a hater is just nonsense. Some of us like him on R2 but certainly not on TV.

It's so clear from all the media coverage, this thread, twitter and blog comments that the BBC have made a massive mistake, that Evans simply isn't right for this role and even MLB is just acceptable. The format only worked when the stooges were together with chemistry - as they were mates. Most people liked Chris Harris, Sabine and Rory but the BBC have not made TG with them - it's Evans and LeBlanc and it just doesn't work - it's not about hating anybody, just wanting the one show about cars to be a good one.

Just thought to my thought to this thread.

I went in thinking they had a prime opportunity to try something completely new, and for that I was disappointed. Then again, I suppose how and why would they alter a winning formula, sold across the world?

Once I had that out of my mind, I consider it to be good, but disappointed by some details.

At the top of the show, they should really have introduced of all the new presenting team, plus introduce the person who won that 30-second video competition (or was Rory the winner?)

Chris's voice is definitely too loud, but also scripting Chris like he is Clarkson (the introduction in particular) is a bad move.

Matt LeBlanc is a welcome breath of fresh air, and comes across more relaxed.

They need to drop the TG USA-style overly grand opening for the SIARPC interview. I'm not quite sure why they had Gordon Ramsey and Jesse Eisenberg together. That seemed a little random! I like the rally cross part, but will that not affect normal road car lap times (unless they clean the track each time)?

The presenters need some to gel and settle in for sure, and the show needs some refining. I will be watching future episodes as I believe they can tweak it and will get better.
IMO, a welcome return and a good, albeit flawed, first episode.

Extra Gear I found to be far more relaxed from the word go.

I'd be surprised if it's still around in two years.

It can't go on forever. The BBC obviously don't want/are too scared/can't think of how to change it. They had a perfect opportunity to radically refresh it (or scrap it altogether/create something different). They didn't, and it's rightfully being panned all over the place.

Looks like it will die a slow death now.

Ahh.....but the best euphemism's, (is that right) truly do stand the test of time, in this case, even to those who have never heard it, it's inference is undeniable. bandit

I doubt it.

In two years time we will have forgotten about Top Gear.

The audience figures were appalling last night. They will clearly drop over the coming weeks.

I didn't bother to watch it last night, but from what I can gather, Chris Evans was a complete disaster. The reason that I didn't watch it is that I cannot stand Evans.

Well I quite enjoyed it, no it wasn't as good as the 'other' Top Gear.

But it was still better than a lot of other TV shows about at the moment and I'm looking forward to seeing how it evolves as the presenters get more settled.

Top Gear is dead long live Top Gear frown

I like LeBlanc and he is trying his best and comes across quite well but Evans is just so BBC whatever you do dont offend anyone. Its all so twee where has the humour and piss taking gone.

Just my opinion of course.

And yet you can't stay away from a thread about one of his shows.

I don't understand why people are so upset, they'll still be able to enjoy Clarkson, Hammond and May's unfunny homo-erotic adventures on Amazon. They haven't lost anything.

I always found that amusing, women at the front, dorks at the back. Doesn't look weird at all sat so close to three old men.

It was toe-curlingly awful

My personal low-lights:

  • The very odd and narcissistic link using his local takeaway "friends"
  • The Viper article was very disjointed, first a "serious" review, followed by a "comedy" segment aimed presumably at teenage boys (could have at least used paint guns that worked instead of stick on missiles)
  • The Reliant challenge was so, ill-conceived, with no coherent objective. And for MLB to appear so nonchalant/despondent on his first day, wow!
  • I think they missed a trick which seemed obvious to me. There are three new main presenters, each from three countries. * The Chris in a Series 1 Landy Vs. Matt in a Willies Jeep showed potential, why didn't they have Sabine in a Kübelwagen? It's a continuation of the same joke/theme, why not extend to all the main presenters?
  • The piece on the Nomad started out by stating how useless it is (the old try and squeeze into a small car gag is funny when a tall bloke does it) - then a mediocre review, once again followed by a childish, staged "challenge". Also, thought the three way comment was a little out of place.
  • SIARPC - Awful on every level. As someone stated much earlier in the thread (far more eloquently than I can) the whole concept of it is placing a celebrity in a car that they would never normally be seen dead in (that is the joke) the whole point of a mini is that they are so ubiquitous, that ANYONE could own one, from Ringo Star, to Doris the dinner lady down the road. Why didn't they use an electric vehicle, for a different angle?
I think all the other negative points have been made before

If you think the best thing about the old show was the format and disliked the presenters, you might like this. If you liked it despite the format, you're probably going to hate this.
