Did anyone else find watching Rory quite difficult as it looked like his eyes were mimicking a hammer head shark? I thought Chris Evans was awful and to be honest I struggle with Sabine.
I don't agree - both Sabine and Harris are good but if they were up front it might turn into one of those very self conscious exercises like Quentin Willson and Jodie Kidd. Evans whether or not he is excitable, and Le Blanc are both guys who are capable of saying just about anything.

I think that was a very good first stab. I would expect this to improve as they find their feet and gain confidence, and no doubt more use will be made of Schmitz and Harris.

The old TG did not emerge complete in its final form. It developed over time from something a lot more conventional than this.

I thought that it's much like the old Top Gear and best watched on the iplayer so you can skip the boring bits(most of it) and pick out the bits that interest you.

Had to turn down the volume a few notches when Chris Evans came on, I know he a load of Ferrari's but he didn't seem to know much about the cars he was in.

Wonder if Clarkson used to personally pick out the eye candy in the audience and put them at the front? Watched the new one and it was full of munters, most of them didn't even look like car enthusiasts.

I was quite impressed with Gordon Ramseys track time, looks like that may be one to beat. Dunno why they had the other guest on though as he clearly had no love for cars.

Overall I was underwhelmed so won't be watching again on Sunday nights, may watch the rest of the series via iplayer if bored with nothing else to do.

.
when I was in the audience there were some goons with BBC-type headphones wondering through saying "you've got a flowery dress, come to the front"... or somesuch.

I was surprised to hear this in the 21st century.

Yep none of the audience looked like car geeks at all. Probably all taken from loose women.

The program was utter st.

I only came on here to read the view of people that did watch it, to see if the opinions of those that DID watch it matched my expectations.

Strange therefore that although the thread question says IF and you would assume on those that DID watch, would contribute to the poll , but the Poll includes an option for those that DIDN'T:

What does a car enthusiast look like?

I see some are already missing the misogyny, racism and general predudice of the previous version. Oh well.

Excellent comment from FinalGear: "Did Chris Evans go to the Barry Scott school of presenting"? rofl

I think it has potential (enjoyed MLB's test of the Ariel) but some important things need to be fixed:

- Chris Evans needs to stop shouting
- Less copying of the original and more interesting stuff
- Chris Evans needs to knock it back by 10dB
- If you're going to have two "stars", at least make them relevant to each other, and make sure the second one doesn't look like he's just been dragged off the street at 10 seconds' notice despite having no interest in cars whatsoever.
- Chris Evans needs to fk off.

Want so so much to like it, its a fun car show after all, whats not to like?

no chemistry between evans and le blanc is the problem, some of the segments where great but the studio bits and the banter between evans, Schmidt and le blanc truly made me cringe. It was like watching 'the office'.

Some of the stuff they said to camera when driving cars seemed awfully scripted.

If there was an option between 'I really enjoyed it' and 'I was disappointed' I'd probably have selected that. It was good in spots, I agree Evans was way too shouty.

Don't know why they piked the Reliant for the road trip to blackpool, why not use something that was never used by the old team? Made it feel like a rehashed idea.

There seems to be a lack of imagination in the BBC. Why not do something like a comparison of performance cars from the 60's vs now. Or try different types of motorsports, everything from autotesting to karting to MonsterTruck racing. Go to a motor show or two and see what the cars of the future will be like etc... those are just some ideas of the top of my head, I don't see why they couldn't have a brainstorming session and come up with something new.

What does a car enthusiast look like?
Beard, oily fingernails, home-knitted jumper, creases ironed into their high-waist jeans.

Or male.

I sit in the "I didn't hate it" camp so there is no option for me in the poll!

I thought the LeBlanc film with the Nomad was good, Evans in the Viper could have been but wasn't. The interaction in the studio was stiff, they need to let them lose a bit, Evans is a talker and can do a fine job if he is left to it, they need to tell LeBlanc to stop delivering lines and enjoy talking to the camera.

I will give it a few episodes to bed in, it could be good but I am not sure they will make it good in time.

I haven't watched the BBC 3 online bit with Harris yet. Has anyone else?

Yep le blanc came across as an actor, acting a part, he just needs to spout loads of st to camera and they can pick the best bits in post. He was clearly enjoying the nomad, but was still delivering id imagine scripted lines instead of just saying stuff that came into his head.

I always thought Chris Evans was a knob. There was nothing on the new TG to change my mind, it was awful IMO.

Ever so slightly O/T, but apparently Evans and le Blanc were here this weekend: http://fitzherbertarms.co.uk/members-cars/

No cameras or crew. Possible research for future piece?
