Gave it half an hour.

Got bored and fed up with the scripted attitude of it. Just too forced and fake.

Chris is a poor presenter, trying to be Clarkson instead of his own stamp on things.

Even the audience looked bored and underwhelmed with it.

almost unbelievably cringe worthy. Really Evans just trying his hardest to be a Clarkson tribute act. Rubbish.

op Christ on a bike. The speed challenge was introduced by Blackpools Mayor - Peter Callow. Irony isn't the word. Under that pillock when he was leader of the Council the road layout in the town was decimated. Under his stewardship the promenade was indeed made nicer to look at but reduced to one lane per direction in parts leading to awful congestion. He also saw the introduction of full stop bus stops. The bus stops so anything behind has to. He was also behind the ludicrous introduction of cycle lanes - many running contra direction to traffic. He totally shafted the town

The trouble with Evans is that he simply isn't funny. Love him or loathe him, Clarkson was funny and humourous and of course the chemistry between all three made it unique. There's zero spark between these two. I just wish Evans would simply shut up and stop yelling.

Only comparison I can make so far is that it's Two and a Half Men with Ashton Kutcher when you're used to watching Two and a Half Men with Charlie Sheen.
This is like Eddie The Eagle meets Rocky Balboa

Well that wasn't as bad as I expected but the Chris Evans stuff was rubbish. He really is a shouty ginger nob who loves the sound of his own annoying voice. Matt LeBlanc was good, him and Sabine could be quite a decent partnership.

Was rather like old top gear.......but just not as good.

The dialogue just didn't flow the same - it felt rehearsed and forced in a way that TG with Clarkson, May and Hammond didn't. Evans was far too shouty.

Evans and LeBlanc have no chemistry - maybe it'll come with time, but I somehow doubt it.

Evans trying to be Clarkson... Oh dear. New Top Gear trying to be Old Top Gear... Oh dear.
I only watched about 2 mins of the Viper. Agreed.

Should have opted for a completely different approach instead of attempting to emulate the previous style..

Abysmal. However, if you cast your mind back to what the first episodes of new old Top Gear were like, there is hope.

Its the Olympic final of the 100m and Usain Bolt is the huge favourite but they decide to put in one of these lookalikes and he comes last.
They had a chance to change it but its just a very lazy copy of the old series without the chemistry of the presenters which carried the show. What a complete waste of money and we get Eddie Jordan soon.
It has been hammered elsewhere too

Utterly dire would be too kind a description.

The scruffy, shouting oik Evans ruined the entire programme. Which consisted of nothing but contrived races either between the presenters or against the clock.

Gordon Ramsey was at least worthwhile.

But is this what we've been waiting for all this time?

I was really looking forward to the return of Top Gear but tonight's show was extremely disappointing. That Mini rally cross car looked like it hit about 60mph at most.. Boring!

Seeing them go at it on the old track in an M3 or at least a hot hatchback would have been interesting.

I'll give next week a chance at least..

Have a read of this: the thread on the first episode of the 2002 series.

Very similar thoughts to now... I say give it time.

Well I enjoyed it, OK it was a lot like old top gear but if it's not broke why fix it, Evans is a bit loud but no more so than clarkson. I would have liked to have known the price of the viper though.

Evens needs to settle down a little, and settle into the role. He plays it just like he did on TFI Friday and needs to know he doesn't need to be quite so 'down with the kids' for Top Gear.

6/10 with scope for improvement.

It was better than I was expecting, didn't mess much wih the format and the film's were good, Leblanc was a bit stilted in the Studio but came across much better on the Atom segment.

A lot of people seem to have made their mind up before even watching the show and nothing they could have done would have changed that.
